Days Inn Charleston- Airport Coliseum

We ended up staying because the staff said a reply to our refund email was unlikely, and might just say they couldn’t cancel or refund us. That was after we asked to check out: the room smelled bad, and there was no hot water even after the shower ran for about 15 minutes. We were in town for my grandmother’s funeral, during the bridge run and flower town festival, so finding a room was already difficult. At check-in, the woman said rates were being lowered. My mom thanked her, and she clarified that the lower rate wasn’t for us, it was for people checking in then to help sell more rooms. We’d booked by phone, given our debit card details, and been charged before seeing the property or room. Then we were told to email someone to possibly get a refund. I paid $230 for a room that felt barely worth $60. The beds were comfortable, at least.

The room’s condition was the worst part. There was dirt and visible mold in the shower, with more mold around the sink and bathroom corners. It looked like the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned properly in a long time, which is a serious cleanliness and health concern, not just ordinary wear. The listing also said laundry was available, but that service wasn’t there when we arrived. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels, and this was one of my worst experiences. The room was unacceptable, and management doesn’t seem to take cleanliness seriously. If clean rooms and honest listings matter to you, stay somewhere else.

The people above my room stomped and kicked around all night. If you’re staying upstairs, please be considerate of the people below you. The price wasn’t worth what the room offered, so I’d spend a little more and go elsewhere. I had to wait until 3 to check in, and still walked into a dirty room. There was what looked like a squashed bug left on the wall, a pimple patch stuck to another wall, and stuff came out of the sink when I ran it. I even found a spider crawling on the floor. This place is disgusting.

The hotel’s location worked perfectly for everything I needed, since it’s right in the middle of things. The bathtub, though, had brown rings all around it, and there was no internet service in the room. Location was the only real plus. I’d spend more at the Holiday Inn down the street instead of staying here.
