Hotel 39 Westminster

The deposit was $150, plus another $110 on top of the room charge. That deposit cost more than the room itself. I’m extremely disappointed. Don’t stay here if you want to pay extra and get less. Shame.

The location worked really well for shopping. There’s an SF market about a five-minute walk away, and next to it is a Banh Mi sandwich shop and an excellent vegetarian restaurant. Asian Garden is around ten minutes away. Starbucks and McDonald’s are also nearby, which helped since there wasn’t a coffee maker in the room. There’s free internet if your cellular service isn’t good, and you’ll need to bring your own device chargers. We asked for early check-in and they were able to make it work. The room and sheets were clean, with no odd smells. I appreciated the microwave and refrigerator. The AC wasn’t too noisy and ran with a steady fan.

The front desk staff were really friendly, and the place was clean and well managed. The location wasn’t great, but for the price it was good value.

Inside, the rooms were nice and clean, with spacious layouts, spotless soft sheets, and cushy pillows. The bathroom looked clean, the free parking was useful, and the small outdoor pool was a plus. The AC cooled the room down very quickly. It’s an inexpensive, convenient base near family and places we were visiting. The setting looks SUPER SKETCHY from outside. The hotel shares a lot with a liquor store and a bar called Beach Girls, beside a busy road and close to the freeway. Staff said there were security cameras and supposedly a guard who made rounds overnight. We could hear some highway and road noise, though the AC made decent white noise. In our room, baby birds nested inside the walls behind the beds and chirped constantly from dawn until evening, but were quiet overnight. It’s a good deal if you can live with the area and the road noise, plus the birds in our room.
