My husband and I enjoy B&Bs as an occasional treat, but Glen Oaks Inn was not one. We had to leave and find a room elsewhere because the odor made my eyes burn and my allergies suddenly became unbearable. I lost $129, since the manager wouldn't reduce or split the cancellation charge, saying it was her policy. We didn't have a choice about the last-minute cancellation because of the medical concern. The inn didn't look like the online photos of a broad green lawn and four Adirondack chairs. The exterior needed work, and a long ladder was leaning against the house. We wondered if we had the right place. The wraparound porch had carpeting, and on Fourth of July weekend 2015, the plexiglass winter windows were still in instead of screens. Inside, old carpeting covered the floors except in the lobby, and I suspect it caused my reaction. I explained the problem politely. The woman manager said I should have mentioned my mold and mildew allergies when I called to reserve the night before. One of them said he felt insulted because he'd just had the carpets cleaned. Maybe the rugs and pads underneath hadn't dried yet. My husband noticed the odor too. It seemed to me that the inn needed every dollar from us for a bedroom we couldn't sleep in.

Breakfast was delicious, and the rooms were cozy, romantic, clean, and well kept. The proprietors were sweet, eager to make our stay just right, and knowledgeable about the area. They were ready to help with anything we needed. We'd certainly return to Glen Oaks Inn.

We were glad to find a vacancy at Glen Oaks Inn after leaving things to the last minute and finding most places booked. We usually stay in moderately priced B&Bs and inns when we travel around New England, and we'd seen mixed reviews but decided to give this one the benefit of the doubt. The photos and descriptions turned out to be misleading. We were so disappointed when we arrived that we left and lost our payment. In all our years of traveling, this has never happened before.

We were greeted by the innkeeper when we arrived, paid for our stay, and got all the useful information, including breakfast hours. We opted out of breakfast. The room was a decent size with a rather disproportionately large bathroom. It felt homey inside, and the other guests were quiet. The location is tucked off the main road, away from the central drag. There's a bar within walking distance, and the grocery store and gas station are about a five-minute drive away. I'd recommend it to other guests and stay again.

My wife and I had such a good time here. Mitch and Linda made us feel right at home, and the food was sooo good. It was a quiet time of year, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves, which was exactly what we needed. I'm sure we'll be back again and again. My wife is already planning the next trip :)
