Motel 6 North Fort Myers

The staff were very polite, and when our first room didn't have a flat-screen TV, the clerk moved us to one that did. My brother was in another room and had similar problems to mine: the phone didn't work, the toilet seat was loose, there was no shampoo in the shower, the bedspread had a burn hole, and the weather stripping on the entry door needed repair. With other motels costing $100 more per night, this was doable.

We were very disappointed and won't be returning. The room smelled of stale cigarettes and chemicals even though it was designated non-smoking. It was dirty, we only got two towels for two people for two nights, and there were no blankets. Mold was growing in the shower, and there were soft spots all over the floors. The lobby had no coffee despite the promise of it, and the vending machines didn't work. We also saw a used needle in the parking lot. The neighborhood felt very questionable in terms of safety.

For $140 a night, I was still disappointed even though I set my expectations pretty low. Bugs in the room, mold in the shower, dirty sheets with stains, and it looked like the room hadn't been cleaned that day. I called for fresh linens and waited an hour with no one showing up. I called again, and they finally came. As another reviewer said, keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed. I'd go by the majority rating, it seems very accurate.

We slept without noise or interruptions on a Saturday night, which was nice, and the price was much lower than the competition. We needed somewhere to stay, and the small, modern washroom was a plus. The room still felt sketchy, though: the fridge was dirty and rusty, and while the walls had been painted, they weren't repainted after the fixtures were changed, leaving old paint squares around the lights. It must have been one of the original motels in the state, and it showed. If you set your expectations low, you'll be satisfied.
