Ocean Drive Beach & Golf Resort

We were four people and nobody could sleep. In the oceanfront suite, the main bedroom was basically in the hallway, so we heard all the noise from loud people coming back from nightlife at 3 or 4 a.m. The AC was in the wall by the bed and sounded like a plane taking off. It was an awful stay, and I wouldn't recommend it. When I asked the front desk woman, someone called Mary, about the room and the noise, she said nobody had complained in her 19 years there. I don't believe that, and I found the response unprofessional. The suite sounded fancy when we booked, but it was far from it. If you have no standards or expectations, maybe you'll be fine here. We won't stay again, and I wouldn't trust all the comments you see. This is an honest review.

Everyone treated us so well. Frederick was wonderful, Erica stayed on top of everything we needed, and Miss Mary made check-in lovely. Barry arranged great accommodations at very fair prices. We'd come back again and again.

We booked an oceanfront room for two nights through Expedia for $600, based on a picture showing a full ocean view. Instead, we found a palm trunk and fronds outside the balcony, with no ocean view at all. The room also had a strong smell like marijuana. When my wife returned to the icy reception desk to ask for a room with the oceanfront view we'd booked, Hank, the older man there, said that's what you get through a third party like Expedia. He said booking direct would've meant they'd make sure we got an oceanfront room, and told us to take it up with Expedia. We did, explained what happened, and got a refund for both nights. Mohammed at Expedia gave excellent customer service. Shame on the hotel staff, who seemed to have a chip on their shoulder from the moment we arrived. We'll gladly take our regular family trips to Myrtle and stay anywhere but Ocean Drive Beach. The check-in itself was icy too. A young girl with long black hair in a ponytail and an older man behind the counter just stared at us, with no greeting. When she copied my wife's ID without telling her, my wife asked why and whether it was secure, given the risk of identity theft. The girl got defensive and said it was hotel policy. She seemed in a bad mood, and there was no professionalism. We asked where the elevators were because it was our first time there, then went to room 421. The picture we'd seen showed a full ocean view.

A few friends and I spent a week here and had a fantastic time. The room was very clean, and we didn't spot any problems. It is a little outdated, but that didn't bother us. The three pools, one indoors and two outside, were clean and really nice to relax beside when we didn't want the ocean. The nightlife was just a one-minute walk from the hotel, which made going out convenient. The staff were helpful and quick to return my deposit. We'll stay here again. Great job, Ocean Drive Resort!
