We stayed at the Verandas years ago, then came back this year after my wife booked through Airbnb. The ninth-floor three-bedroom unit, 904, had a nice view, and the beds were comfortable. The pool was somewhat heated, and the jacuzzi was excellent, large, and very warm. We were close to the beach and could walk to local bars and grills. There was plenty of hot water, and the price was reasonable. The room was nice, but housekeeping could do a better job on the floors. Our socks showed how dirty they were after we walked around. Construction reduced the available parking and made it hard for us as seniors with disabilities. One side of the elevators was shut down for work, but that's better now than in the busy season. We couldn't enter before 4 o'clock, which is standard. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.
The apartment had lovely ocean views over a beautiful, uncrowded beach, and sunrise walks were especially relaxing. Shops, restaurants, entertainment, and a supermarket were all close by, and the kids liked having a couple of pools to take a break from the beach. Everyone around was friendly, and we had a great week at Verandas by the Sea. There were some bugs in the apartment, though management had fumigated recently and a few were still visible. We loved our time in North Myrtle Beach and would return to the area, but might choose a different apartment next time.
The pictures don't do Unit 305 justice. It was very clean when we arrived, and the furniture and bedding stayed comfortable all week. Getting to and from the beach was easy. I'd highly recommend Myrtle during Fourth of July week!
Unit 501 was just gross, with mold in the bathrooms and layers of dust and grime on the surfaces. It clearly hadn't been updated since the early 2000s, and the owner needs to overhaul it and get the cleaning redone. The kitchen was the only good part, with nice appliances and pots. The building is falling into disrepair, with trash, peeling stucco, mold, and unreliable elevators. I can't speak to the pools because the HOA shut them down on a beautiful spring weekend to paint the concrete while the rest of the building was falling apart. When you're paying good money for a vacation, you expect at least a clean place.
In response to the previous renter, who stayed two months ago and had some mistaken information and concerns about the building: 1. The elevator stopped working because someone rammed the door and knocked it off track. The fire and elevator companies were sent out. It could have been someone in the elevator who caused the problem, so this wasn't a building issue. The elevators are currently being replaced. 2. The pool gate code hasn't changed since January 2024. Most people, I find, never get the code from the owner or rental company, so that's not a building issue either. 3. If there's a unit maintenance problem or a smoke detector alarm, the renter should contact the person or rental company they booked through and ask for a change or for the issue to be fixed. Each owner maintains their own unit to their own standards, so this is not a building issue. We do our best to keep the building and grounds in good shape. If you stay again, please report problems to your contact person or the onsite building manager. Sincerely, William Miller Owner President HOA
