Super 8 by Wyndham Deerfield/Northbrook

The best part for us was how easy it was to take our pets outside, since there aren't any hallways to walk through. The staff were extremely nice: the front desk was helpful, the laundry man changed our towels every day, and the cleaners quickly picked up the trash I'd left outside the door. The hotel was clean and felt like a safe place to sleep. It isn't a fancy 5 star hotel, but we'd come back. Love this place!

The room phones still have “Red Roof Inn” on them, and the whole place feels like it was converted without being fully updated. The beds, furniture, rooms, and elevator are all dated, the Wi-Fi was hard to connect to, and there was a lot of noise, including a very loud bathroom vent. Staff weren't especially welcoming or friendly, and nobody seemed to be in uniform. For the same price, I'm sure there are much better motels or hotels nearby.

The party next door was already loud when we walked past, with guitars and drums, beer cans and garbage by the door, and drunk people smoking outside. We went out for a few hours hoping it would end, but it was still going when we got back close to midnight. The front desk did move us after we called, though the man working there seemed clearly frustrated. We'd originally asked for a ground floor room near our car, but got one on the top floor, farthest from the desk and nearest the loud freeway, despite the hotel seeming very empty, with open curtains in the rooms. We had booked through booking.com because it listed the hotel as pet friendly and reviews looked decent. Those reviews must be fake. The place was horrifying, and you couldn't pay me to stay. The ground floor room smelled strongly of cigarettes. Some lights were out, the bedding looked threadbare, and there was a cockroach on the ceiling. Then I saw my dog chasing another on the floor. We packed up immediately and left. At the desk, they said to ask booking.com for a refund. We found another hotel around 1 AM, exhausted and stressed from this awful experience. Save yourself time and stress and stay somewhere else. Hilton Home2 in Lincolnshire is a safe pet friendly alternative. I wouldn't let my worst enemy stay here. I can't believe Super 8 or Wyndham would let this place use their brand. The elevator was very slow, jerky, and sketchy, like it might break down soon. Stairwell and corridors were filthy and only partly painted. The stairs were rusted through, and the building didn't seem structurally safe. There was lots of water damage, with bubbling sheet rock. Roaches and other bugs were around. Bathrooms were filthy, with stained walls and broken light switches. The bedding was gross, stained, and smelly.

For the price in this area, I'm surprised by how good the stay was. It's incomparable with other places at this price point, and a wonderful motel stay overall. Most of the staff were great, though one woman wasn't as friendly as the others. The mattresses do need replacing. Thanks, Super 8!
