The staff were friendly, the room looked clean, and the bed was adequate, but the TV channels were fuzzy and the sound muffled even though it's a smart TV with better capabilities. Breakfast was pretty lame for a continental. The bigger problem was the smoke smell. It seems to have soaked into the carpets, drapes, and upholstery from when smoking was allowed, and cheap industrial air freshener only partly covers it. My things smelled like smoke from being in the room and riding in the van, where the driver also seemed to smoke. Please ask the driver not to smoke. Wyndham needs to gut this place and replace everything.

I came for the Chicago Marathon, and staying here was probably my biggest mistake. The worst issue was the noise from people partying at the hotel. Resting or sleeping wasn't really possible. My room never got cleaned, and the overall cleanliness was awful, especially in the bathroom. The mattress was old and completely sunken, and the sheets looked like they hadn't been changed in a month. The window faced the garbage dump. The building itself is very old, and when I arrived the desk was covered in papers and a mess, though they did manage to find my reservation. It might be worth spending a few extra dollars for somewhere else.

I stayed at Super 8 by Wyndham Chicago Northlake O’Hare South, at 2080 N Mannheim Rd, Northlake, IL 60164, for a work assignment. What happened that night was far beyond what I'd accept as a budget hotel experience. I was handed several keys that didn't work properly. One was for a room with a broken door lock, and another opened a room that was already occupied. I entered by mistake because of a front-desk error. That alone raises serious concerns for guest safety and basic operational control. The last room I was assigned was in extremely poor condition. Its worn-out mattress had metal springs digging into my back, making sleep nearly impossible. There was a strong smell of cigarette smoke, alcohol, and dampness, and it got worse whenever the heater came on. The place felt unhygienic and unsafe. I didn't use the shower or towels because I didn't trust the room's cleanliness. I barely slept, and my skin was irritated from the constant discomfort. The hotel is minutes from O’Hare Airport, on one of the main roads in the Chicago area. It's hard to understand how a place in this condition can keep operating without stricter inspections or real accountability. The next morning, an automated message asked me to rate my stay as if nothing had been wrong. It felt completely disconnected from reality and showed how broken the system is. I'm writing this out of responsibility, not anger. A hotel doesn't need to be luxurious, but it should be safe, clean, and humane. This place failed on all three.

Stay somewhere else. The place was sketchy and dirty, needed repairs, and the advertised shuttle wasn't running at all. The owner tried to guilt-trip me for asking for the amenities they offer. I'd booked a room with a free airport shuttle, but ended up spending over $100 getting to and from the airport. Pizza delivery was the best part of the stay.
