It may have been wonderful when it was running, but this place is no longer a B&B or hotel. It still appears on other platforms, so don’t book a stay here!

Our favorite breakfast was the “Northport Scramble,” and every room having its own bathroom was great. The inn has tasteful furnishings with just enough historic character, without feeling like grandma decorated it. Brad and Annette are lovely hosts and clearly enjoy the B&B owner life. We stayed in late October 2019 and loved every moment. Looking forward to coming back!

The town was quiet, without the heavy tourist crowds, and made a great respite for us. We found this place after a last-minute change of plans, and it reminded us of our family home on the water in Hingham, at the southern end of Boston Harbor. That was also a former Summer House built in the late 19th Century. There are plenty of basics here, though it may not suit anyone expecting 5 star luxury. For us, that kind of luxury gets old anyway. The big lawn even looks like it’s calling for a game of croquet!

Brad is a great host, and the rooms are well proportioned, with a private bathroom in each. Some bathrooms are efficiency retrofits, while others are spacious. The decks and grounds are peaceful, and in the evening you might spot a doe and her fawn crossing the lawn. You can hear the mill pond waterfall at any hour, and it’s a pleasant spot for a stroll. Downtown Northport is two blocks away, and the inn is central to the nice beaches and state Park in the Leelanau. The building was once a luxury summer cottage, with pine panelling, antique furniture and porcelain curios that recall the turn of the century summer-stay era. It’s not a fine Victorian home, just a high-ceilinged place with rustic turn of century charm. Consider this B&B if you’re spending a weekend on the peninsula.

The wrap around porch is a lovely place to read a book or the morning paper, and the central dining area can bring guests together to talk and share stories, one of the nice parts of traveling. Wauban Cottage is a delightful place to spend a few nights or longer in Northport. The owner is wonderful, and breakfast comes promptly early in the morning, with plenty of snacks and drinks to start the day. It’s close enough to downtown for everything to be accessible, yet set apart and a little higher up, so it feels quiet and removed enough to really relax.
