Norton Shores Inn

The outside was ridiculously dirty, and in one bed there was blood on the sheets. At least there were no roaches or bed bugs. They charged $90 plus a $20 deposit, but I couldn't even get on the WiFi. Someone come save me! Just kidding. I'm blessed to see another day, and grateful to those who still believe in me and are keeping a roof over my head until we move into our own place. Update 8/21: The owner really got over on me. The first night cost $90, then it was $80 for each of the next four nights. I could have put that money toward a $100 deposit and paid $350 for the whole seven days. The WiFi never worked, and the new room I stayed in clearly hadn't been cleaned at all. If all you need is a roof over your head, this is the place, and nothing more.

We didn't check in until 9 pm, so we were stuck there for the night. The room smelled foul as soon as we walked in, and there was garbage, chunks of food, and crumbs all over the floor. I bought bleach cleaner and Febreze right away. The pictures we took would show just how bad it was, because it's hard to imagine. I can't believe a place could be this dirty. The website photos make it look like a cute little place with a pool, but the pool being shut down was the least of my kids' concerns. In the morning I told the woman at the front desk we wouldn't stay the second night, which I'd already paid for, because of the conditions, and asked for a refund. She said there were no refunds, but offered to have someone vacuum. I showed her the photos and she acted like she didn't care. DO NOT STAY HERE! Someone needs to do something about this disgusting place.

The pool had no water, though they seem to charge more because they have one. For that price, they should at least offer breakfast, and the room ought to smell fresh and warm. It didn't. There was paint all over the walls, and it was peeling. With fall coming, they should drop the rate to $45 and stop requiring a deposit. I suggest staying away from Norton shores inn.

The pool was empty, and the rooms looked very old and poorly maintained. I can't imagine how many issues we might have run into if we'd stayed, but I didn't mind losing the money if it meant avoiding bed bugs or who knows what else. The website pictures don't look anything like the hotel, and they must be old. Please update the site so people know what to expect, especially travelers without other places to stay.
