West Gate Inn Nyack

I complained the next morning, and the person on duty repeated that the central heat wasn't on yet. He even suggested I call before booking next time to ask whether the heat was running. There won't be a next time. I've stayed here several times, but on my last visit, 10/27/25, I should've asked for my money back and gone elsewhere. It was late October and in the 40s, yet my room stayed cold. After an hour it was barely warmer. The only heat came from a small wall space heater, which wasn't enough. I complained and switched rooms, but the second one wasn't much better.

The West Gate Inn was tolerable for a single night, and the front desk staff were fine. Hotel Nyack (JDV by Hyatt) had been my first choice, but it was fully booked, so I stayed across the street. I had an early start and didn't want to go looking for another place, so I put up with it until morning. The linens had stains and holes, the carpet looked worn, and the walls, drapes, bathroom, and tables all seemed far past their prime. There was a musty smell too. Like other reviewers said, the place needs a serious facelift. If you only need a roof for the night, it works, but paying over $100 for a room in this condition feels like highway robbery.

The buffet breakfast and location were good, and the price was reasonable for the area. The room was much too hot when we arrived, the TV wouldn't turn on, and too many things were plugged into one power strip. There's no elevator. The bath soap was tiny, the shower was hard to start, and there was some cigarette and mj odor. Just okay.

The front desk staff were polite, and we had no problems with the linens. Still, I wasn't comfortable. The listing on Expedia, AAA, and other sites wasn't very accurate, and the room looked questionable and very outdated. There were stains on the carpets, walls, ceiling, and drapes, plus a smell of smoke. We managed for one night without panicking, and nothing unusual happened. Breakfast was complimentary but mediocre at best. The place needs a full renovation if it's going to keep attracting business.
