Cedar Shore Resort

I really wish we'd kept driving after the medical appointment. We were heading home and stopped so our toddler could get out of the car. Maybe the place is better in summer, but in the off-season our toddler's teeth were chattering after five minutes in the very cold pool. The rooms are dated but okay, and the beds are firm. The restaurant was supposed to open at 7, but it was still dark and apparently not being prepared at 7:25. The front desk person guessed it might open at 7:30, and nobody seemed to know. Staff were generally unhelpful with questions and didn't try to find answers when they didn't know. The snack “store” had a few boxes of obviously old snacks and no drinks or water. The vending machines only took cash, and with the restaurant closed there was no way to get water without cash.

For a pheasant hunting trip, I prepaid for a room at this resort, but travel delays meant I arrived a day late. They had given my room to someone else and refused to refund me, saying management's no-show policy barred a refund. I'd never posted a negative Google review before, but I felt other people should know what happened before booking here.

The rooms feel pretty dated next to the rest of the hotel, and some inexpensive room improvements would have made the stay better. There's no breakfast, which is a bit annoying since there isn't another business for miles. The setting is beautiful, though, and the top-floor balcony has an amazing view. The patio and outdoor bar are really cool too, but I wish they'd stayed open later. We got there at 10:30 and they were already closing.

We found Cedar Shore Resort late at night on Bring Fido while driving east toward home with our two dogs, and the nightly rate was great. The river views of the Missouri were spectacular, and the staff were pleasant and professional. Our room and bathroom were very spacious for my husband, me, and our two large dogs. Everything was very clean, and the beds were comfortable. We had to get back on the road, so couldn't stay longer, but we'll return.
