Château du Sureau

Breakfast was good, but this is a weird hotel. The rooms are clean, though they need renovation, and there isn't a TV unless you request one. Parking is odd and requires valet. The larger restaurant with a set tasting menu was mostly empty while the bar with a menu was packed. They should switch them around and put the tasting room where the bar is. For my birthday dinner they arranged a local “winery,” but it was really a dive and not right for a milestone birthday. It was an adventure, I guess. I'd choose Fairfield by Marriott or the Inn at Bass Lake.

The Elderberry room cost $900 a night and needed significant repairs. The manager understood the problems and offered us a discount to help address them. The Chateau has charm, and you can tell the original owner put a lot of heart into the design. The staff were truly exceptional and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for. I hope the current owner takes this feedback to heart and invests in the maintenance the property needs. With some care and attention, this beautiful hotel has the potential to keep deserving its 5-star reputation.

Sayda was an amazing coordinator, and everyone was lovely to work with for our daughter's wedding at the Elderberry. The venue was wonderful for a small wedding, the food was amazing, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect night!

The gardens were beautiful to explore, and the nightly treats were a lovely touch. Breakfast set us up perfectly for a day in Yosemite. Chateau du Sureau was so different from a typical hotel, with friendly, attentive staff who knew their stuff. Dinner at Elderberry House was exceptional, with unique flavors and a romantic atmosphere. Highly recommend for a special getaway!
