Courtyard by Marriott Hickory

Really solid hotel, with clean rooms and a great staff. Everyone was helpful and had a good attitude, and they went out of their way to make sure the stay was going well.

The rooms were super clean and modern, so I’d rate their condition 4.5. But after a long day and a flat tire, we got in at 9:30, checked into room 120, and grabbed a burger at the bistro. When we went to shower, there was no hot water. I let the sink and shower run for ten minutes and the water was still just below room temperature. The clerk called that normal and suggested letting it run longer. We weren’t willing to do that, so she reluctantly moved us to room 220. There we had to run the water about five minutes before it got very warm. We were disappointed that this was considered acceptable at the Courtyard By Merriot Hickory.

I was traveling for work with my husband, our adult daughter, and our 3 year old English Bulldog. We arrived early and were exhausted, so being allowed to check in right away was a relief. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Between the heated indoor pool and hot tub, and the great bartender that evening, it turned into the most relaxing work trip ever. I’ll book here again when I’m in the area for work.

Housekeeping started knocking around 9 a.m., even though checkout wasn’t until noon. They kept at it until I answered, just to ask if I was leaving that day. I’d only booked one night, so I thought the front desk would have passed that along. The bigger problem was the shower. At check-in I was told the water might be “spotty” between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., which I took to mean the pressure or service could cut out now and then. I checked that the water was running before stepping in, but it was completely cold, with no hot water at all. I don’t understand how a hotel can run without hot water during the day, or how rooms are properly cleaned and sanitized. It was a very frustrating stay.
