Hotel Washington

The location puts you right in busy Downtown DC, close to the library and on bus and train routes. I could easily get to the museums, tours, and archives I had planned, and I got to enjoy the D.C Emancipation Day Celebration, which I believe was at Freedom plaza. My room was clean, well stocked, and what I’d paid for. I was traveling solo, so the size was fine, though looking back I might have preferred a larger room. I also had a great view of the Washington Monument Grounds. There was an unexpected charge when I arrived, a long wait before I could get my reservation, and I was made to change rooms.

The staff were lovely and helped us with our luggage and recommendations for places to eat around town. The valet team was great too. My parents and I had a memorable stay, thank you!

The Monument View King Spa Suite was a great place to wake up, with the Washington Monument framed in the bedroom window. It had a spacious seating area, a wall-sized TV, a red lacquered bar, an Amit Greenberg mural running floor to ceiling, and a marble bathroom with a soaking tub. The shower was good, and the room was surprisingly quiet for a city hotel. We slept well. We were in town for cherry blossom season, and the location made the trip. The Washington Monument is a five-minute walk away and the Tidal Basin is about twenty minutes on foot, so we didn’t have to worry about traffic or parking. Valet was quick and genuinely friendly. The lobby is beautiful, with checkerboard marble floors, cozy places to sit, and original 1917 chandeliers. We also ate at VUE and Fireclay, and have reviews for those. From valet to the front desk and housekeeping, the staff met every expectation. We’re looking forward to coming back.

I’m staying in Room 701, one of the hotel’s most expensive suites, and this has been a very bad experience. We paid for the extra amenities, which explicitly include complimentary water in the room. When I asked for water because I urgently needed to take medication, staff repeatedly said none was available and showed no concern. I even offered to pay, but that was ignored. I only got water after going down to the front desk myself and explaining the situation again. When I asked for a manager, I was told none would be available until morning. The staff’s dismissive response felt deeply disrespectful. I couldn’t help feeling I wasn’t taken seriously because I’m Indian, and the way this was handled felt discriminatory. For a hotel presenting itself as luxury, the lack of empathy and poor service are unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend it.
