Econo Lodge Oakland Lake Merritt Area

The one bright spot was the location, across from lake Merritt and within walking distance of lots of great local Vietnamese restaurants. We weren't planning to spend much time in the room and didn't have time to complain or try to get a better one, but we definitely won't return. There were serious problems in the room. The bathroom and shower felt like wet paper mache, with black mold in the shower and one wall visibly swelling from moisture getting inside. The toilet clogged when we used it, and the front desk just handed us a plunger to deal with it ourselves. The sink leaked a little underneath. The vending machines didn't work, and only half the outlets worked. The hotel said it didn't allow pets, but the room next to ours had two small dogs barking and growling the whole time.

I was stranded at 9:20 pm after Amtrak told me there was no room for my gear on the bus and left me in a city where I knew nobody. One motel I tried was miles from the nearest hike and bike camp spot, and wouldn't take cash or debit cards. Americas best value was there when I needed help. They saved my ass. Thank you very much for your service. Thanks to the local Amtrak!

The guy working at 10pm sep 29th was unprofessional. I booked through booking.com and was the only person making the booking, but he wanted IDs from three other adults too. Other places only need ID from the person who booked, so that doesn't make sense. We were just stopping because of a flat tire and only needed somewhere to sleep. There was also a hard time communicating about a refund. I better get one for the poor communication and trouble that man caused. I can see why y'all are a 2 star company. DO BETTER!!!

I am NEVER COMING BACK. The room was disgusting, with a broken AC unit, a tiny stained shower and broken fire alarms. Service was terrible and they refused to accommodate me. At 39 weeks pregnant, I asked for a bottom-floor room and they wouldn't give me one. Instead, I was put next to people smoking right outside my door. The key stopped working, and they wanted me to go up and down three flights of stairs because the room phone didn't work either. What was worse, the room or the service? I'd rather sleep in a car than stay here.
