Blue Wave Inn

This was our seventh year staying at blue wave. The location is nice, two blocks from the boardwalk, and the rooms are clean. The pool fills up quickly, so morning and night swims are best. The food is good too. The towels seemed a bit questionable to me, but they were easy to replace. Great price for our six-day stay!

The front desk lady around 6:00pm was extremely nice, but our room had serious maintenance and cleanliness issues. Half the bathroom door and trim were missing, and the bathroom floor was warping upward, maybe from water damage. There was sand and dirt all over the carpet, cobwebs on the walls, and a strong mildew smell, especially in the bathroom. My child has asthma and was up all night having flare-ups. The decor cracks me up because nothing matched. We were on the ground floor and could hear everything above us. It sounded like the people upstairs were going to fall through. At 12:36am I had to call the front desk about the noise because my kids were trying to sleep.

The boardwalk was within walking distance, but that was the only upside. We paid $752 for a weekend after seeing the pretty room in the ads, then walked into a filthy disaster. Black bugs were crawling on the sofa, the bathroom was moldy and smelled like urine, and the tub, sink, coffee pot, blankets, and floors were all disgusting. There was old coffee and what looked like mold spores in the pot, and the floors looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned in years. We asked for a full refund within 15 minutes of arriving, but management wouldn’t give it. Our health mattered more than being near the boardwalk. If I could give zero stars, I would. I wouldn’t let my pet stay there, much less a person. Stay away.

We liked the setup for our group: two adjoining rooms, with an exterior door and a private porch shared just by us. It made it easy to go between rooms and hang out. The boardwalk was close, and it was about a 15-minute walk to the inlet. We saw some spiders but no other bugs. The property felt badly neglected. There was a lot of mold in the bathroom, stains around the unit, gaps in the cheap-looking flooring, and deteriorating paint and woodwork on the shower window. The pullout couches were dirty and uncomfortable. I tried going to the office several times during our two-night stay, but it was empty every time. I really wanted to like the place because of its layout and location, but I don’t think I’ll return until it’s cleaned up.
