Kings Arms Motel

I used to love staying here, and I’ve been coming for years. The same staff used to be here year after year and knew me, but now it seems to be new people every time. On our last full day this year, my kids and I were asleep when someone knocked once, just before 10, then opened the door without waiting for me to answer. I couldn’t see who it was. They said, “oh, you’re sleeping,” and walked back out. I hadn’t put out the door hanger. It felt like they thought the room was empty, which makes me wonder why they were trying to enter when they thought nobody was there. My kids or I could have been changing. I was really upset. When I told the man at the front desk, he apologized and said there were maintenance issues. Nothing was wrong with our room, and if there had been an emergency, they wouldn’t have left, or I’m sure they would at least have come back. It sounded like excuses. I was so disappointed.

The staff were fantastic and friendly, and being on the first floor made handling our bags easy. The downside was how loud the people above us were. I wish the motel had a posted quiet-hours policy. Still, a good stay.

I’ve spent nearly a week trying to contact the hotel about a charge that shouldn’t have been made. My voicemails and emails have gone unanswered, which says a lot about their service. Be careful booking through other sites if they say payment won’t be taken until your stay. It feels like both the hotel and Orbitz are trying to avoid responsibility.

The rooms are cozy, the pool is nice, and the location is great: just a block and a half from the beach and boardwalk. I’ve been coming here every year for the past 15 years.
