The Atlantic, BW Signature Collection

We chose this place because it had the Best Western name, and expected a respectable stay from a respected brand. Instead, the holiday weekend was miserable. The staff said they couldn’t give us a parking spot because guests hadn’t checked out, even though the lot was half empty and someone was grilling in a parking space. So BBQs could use the lot, but paying guests couldn’t. After we finally got a room, the supposedly clean towels were soaking wet. My husband took them to the desk, and they said the sink had just been fixed and would send someone over. The drain wasn’t connected properly, so it kept leaking. The shower handle knob kept popping off while we tried to adjust the water. On the morning of day two of our three-day stay, we reported a toilet plumbing problem. The front desk told us not to use our bathroom and to go across the street instead. Maintenance would come later, but never fixed it, and the toilet kept having problems. When I asked for a manager, staff said it was their day off and they weren’t allowed to contact them. I might not have reviewed if it were only the parking, wet towels, sink and shower, since nothing’s perfect. The toilet problems and the staff telling us to go across the street, along with their refusal to call the manager, are why I think this place needs to be condemned. I’ll report them to the health department. I’d never recommend staying here, and I’d urge Best Western to drop its flag from this dump. They send texts asking for feedback as if that means they provide good service, but they don’t seem to know how to run a hospitality business. Stay somewhere else.

You can’t beat the location or the free parking, and it’s one of the least expensive places to stay in OC. The room felt fresh and newly renovated, but the mattress was old, worn out, and terrible. The elevator seemed questionable at best. The AC worked, though the room always felt damp. The pool was refreshing, but old, with cracks and a slippery floor. There are some compromises at this price.

The toilet gurgled all night, even when we weren’t using it, and gases came out. Other guests had the same plumbing problem. They said there was nothing they could do and told us to use the bathroom across the street. Parking spots weren’t assigned, so if you leave you might lose yours, while people with BBQ grills were taking up spaces. When we asked for a manager, they said they weren’t allowed to contact him.

The building is old but newly renovated, and the rooms are nice. They didn’t update the elevator, though. The fridge door was broken and the shampoo dispenser was empty. Good location, plenty of parking, and a nice pool.
