The Tides Inn

The room was easily the cleanest of any hotel I’ve stayed in, with no dust that I could see, and it felt comfortable. It was the end of the off-season, which may have helped. The hotel itself is basic, but the employees were lovely from check-in through checkout, including the cleaning staff. I’d realized before leaving that there was no elevator and asked for a first-floor room because the third floor would have been hard for me. They switched me with no trouble.

The police advised us to leave the property for our own safety after the manager’s behavior escalated. We’d had music on while getting ready when he knocked aggressively. We tried to talk and only asked him to speak respectfully, but he got more hostile and threatened to call police. They arrived minutes later. We explained what happened, but he claimed he’d repeatedly asked us to turn the music down, which wasn’t true. When we asked to see the security cameras, he became even more aggressive. A staff member had previously made a comment hinting at this sort of behavior, though we never expected it to escalate like this. The manager is dishonest and mistreats guests. I strongly advise against staying here. Sadly, this apparently isn’t the first incident of this kind.

We’d been at the hotel for about an hour when the manager came to our room and made us leave. He yelled at us, refused a refund, and wouldn’t let us leave our car in the parking lot. He said it was because our music was too loud, but that wasn’t true. We were actually heading out to dinner, and would have turned it off if he’d simply asked. He called the police and falsely said he’d warned us several times over two hours, even though we’d only been there about an hour. He also wouldn’t show the camera footage that would prove what happened. The manager was rude and dishonest.

The location was handy and the room was decent for three nights. It was very sunny inside during the day because of random windows with no curtains, and there was no deadbolt or peephole on the door. We also found a bug in the bed. I left the room service sign up for two days, taking it down at night, but nobody came. The only time staff showed up was around 8 or 9 in the morning while we were asleep and the sign was off. The front desk woman and the rest of the staff were sweet. I just think they need to do a better job reaching every room during the day.
