Shilo Inn Suites Ocean Shores

We used to stay here for a night after celebrating the 4th of July at Ocean Shores during the Covid years, 2020-2023. Back then the hotel was run down and nearly empty. Now business seems to be picking up, but they arbitrarily canceled our one-night reservation for the 2026 4th of July. The only obvious reason I can see is that they wanted bookings for several nights instead. What’s the point of reserving early if they’ll drop you for more profit? The facilities and management are both garbage. I’d give this hotel zero stars if I could.

The staff were friendly and helpful, even offering to fetch a Sprite from the car, and I’ll give them credit for that. The property itself is badly maintained. The restaurant is closed, the pool was gross with broken mosaic tiles, and the fish tank was filthy. The fitness room was a joke, and couches had been spread around to make it look as if there were more seating. There are no vending machines; the one at the end of the hall was probably empty, or you could see where one used to be. Inside our room, the sink and phone didn’t work, and the living-room TV was a joke. There were no cups, towels, or coffee supplies. The fireplace was broken, the floor and couch were disgusting, and the sheets were dirty. One mattress sagged under us and had blood on the sheets, while the other was fine. Wallpaper was peeling, with mold and rust everywhere. This place may have thrived in the 80s, but it’s been a sad joke since.

Our family stayed here every summer, and it used to be one of our best experiences, with a beautiful beach and a restaurant. I can’t speak to how it is now. There are so many house rentals these days that they must be hurting the big hotels.

I wouldn’t stay here again. The property is run down and had almost no guests. Shilo was a nice place 20 years ago, but that’s changed. The pool and hot tub were dirty and poorly maintained, and the couch was badly stained. They had no washcloths, and none were available when we asked. It looks like the place is going under and nobody cares. There was no food, though given the signage about the city forcing a closure, that may be better for customers. There are plenty of better options nearby, but it feels like Ocean Shores has lost its way.
