I had a really bad experience checking out. My stay was from March 1 to March 2, and this is a shady place with a lot of traffic all night. The owner had my deposit and accused me of throwing a towel in the trash. I said I hadn't and asked to see it. He said his housekeeper would send him a picture and called it a medium towel. He also said there was a stain on the sheet, then asked me to go back to the room with him. On the bathroom floor next to the trash can, the maid had left a washcloth. I didn't put it there, and I don't know how it got in the trash can. He asked whether he should charge me $10 or $15 for the washcloth. The sheet had a stain about the size of a half dollar, maybe faded, dried blood or possibly a scratch from my leg. I don't know, and I thought bleach could have taken care of it. Instead of explaining anything, the owner deducted $45 from my deposit. I told him that was completely unfair. I wouldn't trust him with another deposit or stay there again. Don't take your kids or family there, it's not that kind of hotel. I wish I didn't have to write this. I don't usually leave reviews, so this is probably way too long, and I don't know if anyone will read it.

We booked and paid online for two nights but left after one. When we arrived, the motel asked for my credit card as a deposit and said it would be returned at checkout. We kept the place clean and barely used the towels and blankets, but they still kept the deposit and charged us another $100. This is a scam motel. I'll go to the lobby to ask them directly, and if they don't give a valid reason, I'll report them to the police. It seems clearly like a scam.

It was a great first hotel stay for me, and I'd definitely come back. The rooms were comfortable, very clean, and had great entertainment options. There was the usual wear and tear you'd expect in a building, but nothing bad. The staff were nice, and the front office helped right away when I forgot my key. They were very professional. It's not far from Oceanside Transit Center or nearby plazas.

My stay at Hotel Avenida (OYO) near Camp Pendleton was a nightmare. I checked in and immediately saw a roach crawl across the floor. I refused the room and returned the key, after which the front desk became hostile and argumentative. I have proof of a $100 deposit swipe at their terminal, Terminal ID: MSOIJROG, but they told Hotels.com I was a “No-Show.” I believe they're trying to keep my prepaid reservation money by claiming I never arrived, even though they have my card information from the in-person swipe. OYO Corporate was rude and argumentative too, and they hung up on me while I was on hold. I felt left with no recourse. I've filed reports with Oceanside Code Enforcement and the San Diego Consumer Protection Unit. This place is a health hazard and a scam. Don't give them your card. In response to the owner: I received your acknowledgement of the infestation and financial discrepancies. A refund is the bare minimum and doesn't resolve the danger this property poses to the public. I'm not “appreciative” of getting money that's legally mine, which your company tried to withhold through what I consider fraudulent reporting. My complaint concerns staff falsely reporting me as a “No-Show” to avoid refunding a roach-infested room, even though you have a record of my card being swiped at your terminal on Dec 12. Public reviews show what looks to me like a year-long pattern of similar or other financial issues. I'm formally asking OYO to shut the property down immediately for professional remediation and a third-party code compliance inspection. Staff who acted hostilely and falsely reported my status should be terminated for cause. If OYO doesn't promptly audit the last 12 months of claims at this location and voluntarily close the property, I'll provide my fraud evidence to the San Diego District Attorney’s Consumer Protection Unit, which I believe will pull your license and force the closure.

The location is right off the 5 freeway and close to the beach, and the rates were affordable for me. This is a motel, not a luxury hotel, so expecting five-star treatment doesn't make sense. I stayed for quite a few days and had to book or reserve almost daily, working around my personal schedule. The front desk staff were patient, never denied me the chance to continue my stay, and didn't make me switch rooms once. That warmth and welcome meant a lot, especially since I'm a difficult guest. The staff made me feel remarkably safe and respected my privacy 34/7. Key access to the permits and the subtle but effective overnight rounds helped make this the safest I've ever felt. For example, I heard a non-specific alarm go off around 2-3am this morning, and the overnight staff on duty handled it properly. I want to thank everyone at this location, from the graveyard front desk and maintenance gentleman to the room service personnel. The motel has high standards of cleanliness, customer service, and human touch for the price people like me can afford. My stay was comfortable, calming, and a much-needed healing experience. Much love, Hawer.
