Super 8 by Wyndham Oceanside Downtown

The room was clean, and the large jetted tub, big enough for two, worked well and helped us relax after a long drive. But the rest of the stay wasn't pleasant, and we won't return. The TV wasn't hooked up when we tried to watch it, and a bathroom towel hook was barely attached to the wall. I chose this motel because reviews mentioned pillowtop mattresses, but ours was hard and I got maybe three hours of sleep. I like a dark room, and a lot of light came through the shutters all night, along with traffic noise. The towels were thin and small, and both the bedspread and top sheet had holes.

The location is great, the rooms are clean and nice, and the staff have always been polite, professional, and kind to my boyfriend and me. My boyfriend and I have stayed at about five hotels in the area, and Super 8 is easily our favorite. Somehow it's one of the cheapest options and still much nicer and cleaner than the other budget places. The security deposit and flexible checkout are the best parts. Other local hotels often want $150 on a card, which is a lot when money is tight and you have to wait three to five business days for it back. Super 8 asks for $50 for the basic cheapest room, which is still really nice, and takes cash or card. I always pay cash. When we check out, reception checks the room quickly and hands it back, as long as nothing is broken, stained, or missing. Regular checkout is 11:00 am. You can request 1:00 pm checkout for $20 or 3:00 pm for $40, with the fee taken from the deposit. They do have to approve it, but I've had no problems so far. Early check-in is available too. Normal check-in is 3:00 pm, and I think early check-in at 1:00 pm costs $20, though I'm not completely sure since I've never used it. There's also a guest laundry with two washers and two dryers. They take quarters, and each machine costs $2.00. This place is an easy recommendation if you're on a tight budget and still want somewhere nice, clean, and respectable.

The staff were the highlight, always welcoming, friendly, and ready to help. We found the rooms spotless and well kept, and the beds were surprisingly cozy after a long day. We had a great stay at this motel. For a clean, comfortable, affordable place with great service, it's a solid choice.

We enjoyed our stay overall. Super 8 is clean and right off the freeway, but the coffee is awful and the grab-and-go breakfast is a joke. Parking is garbage, especially if you drive an SUV. There's very little clearance when you exit the lot.
