The restaurant attached to this little hotel is one of the best in Oceanside, in my opinion. The hotel itself is cozy and offers decent service and good-quality small rooms. It's not on the same level as the area's fancier competitors, but it's a nice place.
Hotel staff were accommodating and gave good customer service, but management handled a parking problem badly. An employee told me I could park two streets down, but I got a ticket. When I raised it, management pointed to the signage instead of offering free parking. An employee did give me free parking after hearing what happened, but management then said no to extending that for my additional stay. The follow-through was poor, and management needs to put more focus on customer service. Thank you, Hilton, for a wonderful hotel stay.
It did the job, and I'll come back, but I wouldn't choose it for a romantic or relaxing trip. The first floor gets noisy: from my room on the lobby side I could hear the restaurant, lobby TV lounge, people walking in the corridor, and even footsteps upstairs. Things quieted down around 10 or 11 PM, but I still didn't sleep properly. Next time I'll ask for an upstairs room. The location is great, within walking distance of the beach, breweries, and some wonderful restaurants. If peace and quiet matter most, I'd stay somewhere with thicker walls and ceilings.
The pier is beautiful and close enough to walk to, and there's good souvenir shopping nearby. That's why I'd put up with the small rooms and restaurants around Finns that are just okay. The restaurant isn't great unless, like me, you order steak and eggs. Prices in California are high, too. I paid $4 for a bottle of Canada dry diet ginger ale. Still, I give Finn's five stars. It's a quaint hotel a few blocks from the Oceanside CA pier, and I like the location most.
The gated alley behind The Fin Hotel made parking secure and convenient, and the hotel itself was a comfortable place to unwind after time out in downtown Oceanside. I spent an afternoon walking to the pier, picking up a cigar at Cigar Grotto, and watching surfers from the break. Back in my room, I poured a drink and watched football and Netflix on the Smart TV. It's just two blocks from the pier, amid cars, people, bars, antique stores, and local food spots. My two nights felt like a proper getaway. The boutique décor was stylish but comfortable, and the centrally located room was surprisingly peaceful despite the downtown setting. It had a mini-fridge, Keurig coffee maker, two plush robes, and shampoo and body wash with a scent that reminded me of one of my favorite spas. I also had a lovely breakfast at Little Fawn, right in the hotel. The café and bar felt elegant but relaxed, a nice place to spend time alone or catch up quietly. I ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich with garlic-Parmesan fries and garlic-mayo dip, which were outstanding. Amy was warm and accommodating, and listened to my stories about Vegas. Brunch runs from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., with dinner service starting at 5:00 p.m. As a diamond member, I found a complimentary snack box in my room with popcorn, a protein bar, nuts, chocolates, and cookies. It was a thoughtful touch. The front-desk team, especially Sarah, were kind, professional, and genuinely welcoming. For a couple or solo traveler looking for a North County Oceanside stay close to the local buzz but with a comfortable place to retreat, The Fin Hotel and Little Fawn are easy to recommend.
