Sharon at the front desk was wonderful, welcoming me warmly and going out of her way to make sure everything was right. Her help made a big difference. The Hampton Inn is in a beautiful historic building in the heart of downtown Ogden, full of character and charm. It’s also connected to the convention center, which made things easy and stress-free. I’d recommend staying here for business, an event, or a visit to Ogden, and I’ll be back.

The location is great, but parking is a real problem. There aren’t many choices unless you pay or join the Hilton club. The remodeled older building is cool, the service was excellent, and our room was clean and neat. What ruined the stay was the bed. My wife and I both slept terribly. It was extremely hard, with what felt like a worn-out pillow top. It didn’t even feel like a firm mattress, more like something cheap or worn down until it became hard. Every so often during the night, cigarette smoke came through the vents when the heat turned on. I have no idea where it came from. Since sleeping is the main point of a hotel, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you like hard mattresses.

The room was clean, and the front desk woman was friendly, but street noise from our second-floor room at the front of the building was deafening at 10:15 p.m. The parking situation was just as frustrating. We circled the building three times, then used a spot marked “Hampton guest parking only” so we could check in, only to learn we weren’t allowed to leave the car there. The app let us check in online but didn’t provide a digital key, and the only entrance was at the front. We waited about ten minutes behind other guests before checking in. Then we were told to move the car to another guest lot that needed a special pass key. After a brisk walk to relocate it, we returned the parking pass they’d given us because it would cost $50 if not returned before checkout. Between the noise and the parking hassles, I’d choose a more user-friendly location.

The lobby is very nice, and breakfast was good with amazing servers. It’s also a great spot within walking distance of restaurants and other things. The room felt old and had an odor, though we could understand that given how old the hotel is.

The historic building is beautiful, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. We arrived around 5:30 p.m. Friday and traffic from nearby activities made it hard to get close. There are only about 20 hotel parking spots, so you have to pay if they’re full. We returned around 7 p.m. to find our first room filthy: the toilet was open and full of urine, the bed wasn’t made or clean, and food trash was everywhere. We learned we were the second guests assigned that dirty room. The replacement was better, but had black curly hairs all over the bathroom and shower and smelled musty. When we came back from a meeting around 9:30 p.m. to shower, there was no shower curtain. The desk clerk said we were the second people to report that, and seemed unconcerned. At 2:15 a.m., an alarm sounded throughout the hotel and woke us. The pillows were old and lumpy, and very uncomfortable. Apparently there’s no manager on weekends to discuss issues with. Street traffic was also noisy. Never again.
