Candlewood Suites Midwest City by IHG

I really appreciated the staff. They were exceptionally friendly, took ownership, and handled all my questions and requests. During a tornado warning, they were present and attentive in the lobby. For what I paid, I can't really complain, though a lot of the issues seem tied to the dated facility. The location worked well, with restaurants walkable or a short drive away. There was free parking, a fitness center and pool, but no breakfast. They ask guests for car makes and models, so I assume they enforce lot rules, which is helpful in busy travel seasons. My room was spacious but laid out awkwardly. The desk was very long with no nearby outlet, so I had to daisy-chain laptop chargers from the kitchenette to keep my computer powered while working. The towel bar came off when I reached for a towel after showering, and gnats were in the room throughout my stay. The hallway smelled different each day, sometimes like seafood and sometimes like excrement. A lot of the features seemed quite old. The alarm clock and gym equipment had docks for iPods and iPhones over 15 years old. Several fitness machines didn't work, and some had no warning. The TV stayed on the History Channel, with no remote to change it. That's usually fine, but I work out early and Christian infomercials blared from it. There were no wipes or spray to clean the equipment, only towels. There were two phones in my room, but only one worked. Loud elevator music played outside the elevators in the hallway, and I wondered if nearby rooms could hear it. I also noticed the fitness center equipment didn't all work, and there was nothing but towels for wiping it down.

The rooms were dim, with what looked like missing lamps. There was plenty of desk space but no desk light, just a wall sconce at one end of the long desk. An easy chair would've been nice for reading, except it had no floor lamp behind it. The hotel was quiet and nicely decorated, with attentive staff. It's conveniently located for Tinker AFB and I-40, and there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. There was no breakfast or restaurant on site, the lobby convenience store was a bit pricey, and the free coffee was so-so. I'm an IHG member, but didn't get any perks or acknowledgment. Because of the lack of food options and poor lighting, I probably wouldn't stay again.

The bathroom fan was out, the fridge made noise all night, and the tub wouldn't drain right.

The free washer and dryer were handy. We just had to buy detergent, and the hotel also sells it for $2. They held a $75 deposit, which was automatically released after checkout. The kitchen had a large fridge, stove, utensils, microwave, and dishwasher, though there wasn't a sponge for washing dishes. The hotel is old but well maintained, and both the room and bathroom were spotless. Our twin beds and pillows were very comfortable. We were happy with our stay and had nothing to complain about.
