Red Roof Inn Oklahoma Airport – I-40 W/Fairgrounds

I booked through Booking.com expecting a safe place to stay, but I felt extremely vulnerable and unprotected here. I was almost abducted in the parking lot. It was genuinely frightening, not a small incident or misunderstanding, and I was shaken and scared. I reported it to the property right away. The staff didn’t take my concerns seriously. I felt dismissed and unheard, with no urgency, reassurance, or meaningful effort to deal with what had happened or make sure I’d be safe afterward. I’m still shaken by it. No guest should go through something like that and then feel ignored. Safety should be the minimum, and it wasn’t met here. Please be very cautious about staying at this Red Roof Inn.

We left before checkout after staying just one night of the two we booked. The manager initially wasn’t going to return our deposit and also refused to refund the unused night. I spoke with them as we were leaving. The room wasn’t properly cleaned. Our feet turned black walking barefoot, and the bed felt like plywood. The heater only worked if we set it to 90°, the concierge wouldn’t move us or provide extra blankets, and we couldn’t get on the Wi-Fi. People were arguing outside all night. When we left, there were nearly ten people in the stairwell apparently using meth or fentanyl. I saw them burning something in foil and called the police. This place was disgusting. It should be shut down.

We took one look at the location and felt on high alert. After seeing the room, we said no and asked for a refund. The sheets were stained, the pillows were brown and nasty, and the room smelled bad. We went down the street to a cleaner, better room at the La Quinta. It cost a little more, but I’d gladly pay for quality over what Red Roof was trying to charge. This place needs a major overhaul.

We decided to keep driving as soon as we pulled up. There were too many transients outside for us to feel safe, especially with our pickup loaded with things we didn’t want disappearing. I’d given the rooms and service three stars based on an earlier stay years ago, but this time we didn’t stay at all. Red Roof, do better. I’d bet that hiring full-time security to move homeless people off the property would cost less than losing business.
