Courtyard by Marriott Kansas City Olathe

I’ll be back after my first stay here. The room was lovely, with a big flat-screen, over 100 channels, a free HBO Max library, and good streaming options. The evening clerk was friendly, professional, and efficient. Several good local and national restaurants are an easy walk away, with more just a few blocks out. It was quiet inside and still close to the interstate.

The bed was just right for me, comfy but firm enough that I didn’t sink in, and the room was great. The AC was pretty loud. I sleep better with some background noise, so it worked out fine. The area and the view weren’t anything special.

We stayed in a compact but very nice king room with a small single hideabed, and the bed was comfortable. The location is handy for shops, restaurants, MNU, and a movie theater. One thing to know for a short visit: you have to ask if you want room service.

Our son’s soccer tournament was ruined after we took him to the pool. Within minutes, our nine-year-old was coughing uncontrollably from throat irritation, and he was up much of the night coughing and hacking. He could breathe, but we nearly went to the ER. The next morning, urgent care gave him a steroid inhaler and pills to reduce lung inflammation. He missed several days of school and spent days and nights in pain and without much sleep. We later learned he wasn’t the only child affected. I reported it to the staff when we returned from urgent care. They told me to contact management on Monday. Since this is a Marriott property, I expected them to try to make things right. I wasn’t looking for some huge settlement, just the stay comped and maybe some Marriott points to help cover the medicine and urgent care bill. Cindy, the GM, emailed that several children had been reported ill on Saturday morning, so they shut the pool down. She also said we couldn’t prove the pool caused our son’s illness, so they wouldn’t do anything. She acknowledged multiple pool complaints, but still wouldn’t help. I understand mistakes happen, but they should respond to what happened instead of denying it. I wasn’t asking them to pay for his college, just to make it right. That apparently wasn’t worth it to Cindy and the leadership there. Your stay may be fine, but if something happens that they caused, don’t expect them to make it right.
