Clark's Beach Motel

The room was adequate, but the two double beds were quite uncomfortable and the toilet hadn’t been cleaned. We paid $179 because we came on Black Friday to see the Christmas parade. Probably won’t return.

We’ve had a great time staying here and snowmobiling in Old Forge. The owners are accommodating when we arrive late, and they keep the complimentary trailer parking lot well plowed. After I forgot my glasses on our last snowmobile trip, they even shipped them home to me. Sure, there are nicer and newer hotels, but I haven’t found this kind of honest, family-owned service anywhere else. -Ethan

At $180 a night, I expected more. The mattresses were awful. When my 150 lb husband sat on the edge of ours, the corner sank a foot. His concern was that he kept getting bitten in the bed. More than 20 bites appeared a short while after each time he slept there. I wasn’t bitten, but different people can react differently. He was certain something in the bed was biting him. Garret promptly checked the mattress, and we appreciated that. He said he found no evidence of bedbugs and thought my husband might have been bitten on a hike or somewhere else. Newly hatched bed bug nymphs are tiny and nearly see-through, so they can be very hard to spot, and they do bite people. My husband asked to get a new mattress or move to another room, since many rooms were vacant. Garret refused both. He said the problem wasn’t the mattress and that switching rooms would mean paying an extra cleaning fee. We offered to pay that fee and would have helped Garret and his team swap the mattress, but he still said no. Garret also said he wouldn’t accommodate us because we’d trashed the room. Our belongings were spread around, and we’d put our accumulated garbage in one corner, but there’s no daily maid service at Clark's and we never abused the room. We’ve stayed in many hotels, motels, and air b n b's over the years and have never received a poor review. We attached photos of the room as we left it. Garrett's daughter Haley and his wife Heather were polite and very accommodating, and Garret was responsive when he checked the mattress. His conclusion and refusal to help were unacceptable. Yelp’s 1 1/2 star rating speaks for itself, and I should have known better. Avoid Clark's Beach Motel. There are plenty of other nice places in Old Forge, Eagle Bay, and Inlet.

The rates are affordable, and you can walk to pretty much anything you might want to do. Everyone on staff was nice and helpful. It’s a very nice place for a getaway, and I’d recommend it. I’ll definitely come back.
