There were dog relief stations in several spots around the property, and our pup seemed happy staying here. I hadn't expected much, but the room smelled pleasant, and I liked the dishwasher and amenities. Jay was friendly and helpful at check-in. Breakfast was nice too. The kids loved the hot chocolate setup with mini marshmallows and rainbow sprinkles, which they called unicorn sprinkles. We'd definitely stay again for an overnight trip to the area.
That Thanksgiving dinner was tasty and well prepared, and it saved us from having to cook. Breakfast was delicious too. Guerty at the front desk was great, friendly, and went out of his way to help. Carmen, Jay, and Victor were kind and sweet, and Juan and Jose from maintenance were helpful as well. The hotel itself was great. The one disappointment was that the pool is permanently closed.
We had a pretty ordinary room on New Year's Eve 2025, and the sofa bed was so uncomfortable that all of us ended up using the regular bed. Breakfast was also average, though there were plenty of choices. The bigger issue came with getting the guarantee back. We called the hotel many times and were told the process had been done and to wait, but after a month and a half nothing had come through. We finally contacted the Marriott chain directly. They gave us a case number, and the guarantee was returned two days later. I don't have photos of the room or hotel. This may sound like a small detail, but I'm posting so other guests know about it.
The staff were nice, and being close to Olde Mistik Village was convenient. Those are about the only positives I can give this Residence Inn. In ten years of staying at Marriott properties, this was the worst one I've encountered. I booked a two-night, one-bedroom, two-room suite with points three months ahead, but was assigned a studio instead. It was a hearing-impaired room beneath the stairs, where every footstep overhead could be heard. The room smelled as if someone had just cooked in it. When I opened the window to air it out, it fell out because the hinges were broken. With a toddler and a ground-floor room, that felt like a serious safety concern. The shower/tub and toilet also drained very slowly, probably because they were clogged. Since we arrived late, no other room was available that night. I raised the problems with the manager on duty the next morning. She said a system issue had affected check-ins and offered points compensation if we stayed in the unsafe room, or a move to the room we'd originally booked after it was prepared. I chose to move. The replacement was much better: the windows worked, the shower drained, and the toilet worked. There was still thick mold around the tub and broken curtains, but at least its window stayed in place. Breakfast was decent by Residence Inn standards and fully stocked: powdered eggs, dry bacon, sausage, Udi's gluten-free muffins, waffles, fruit, packaged hard-boiled eggs, Dannon yogurt, and good coffee.
The rooms were clean, and Miss Chastity at the front desk was friendly and accommodating. Still, this hotel is overpriced, and the toilets were the biggest problem. They were extremely low, like toilets for preschool or early elementary kids, in our room, other rooms, and the bathrooms by the breakfast room. One man said the urinal there was only five inches off the floor. Some people in our group had to bring an end table into the bathroom to help themselves stand up. Someone also found a large hole in the carpet in her room. Breakfast was basic, low-grade motel food with little variety, including powdered scrambled eggs. The person working that area couldn't keep up with restocking and wasn't friendly, unlike Miss Chastity. There were too few accessible parking spaces, and the hotel doors weren't automatic, which made getting in with luggage difficult.
