Crosswinds Motel & Cottages

There’s a familiar, family-vacation feeling here that keeps me coming back year after year. Crosswinds isn’t the biggest or fanciest motel on the beach, but it has something special. I love that it’s still privately owned instead of being taken over by a big corporation focused only on profit. They remember you from one season to the next and tailor the service to what you need. The pool is spotless and wonderfully warm. It’s not huge, but I never want to get out. It reminds me of the trips our parents took us on in the 60’s.

The mattresses and pillows were uncomfortable on both of our visits, and they could use an update. Aside from that, this is hard to beat for the price if you want to stay right by the beach. We’ve been here twice and had a very good experience each time. Management is friendly and accommodating, and the location is great: beach access is just across the street, and the pier is 0.7 miles away, an easy walk that leaves you well clear of the noise.

The room was clean-smelling as soon as we came in, and the beds were comfortable. It’s only a block from the water and about a 15-minute walk to the pier. I thought this was the most affordable place I could find in such a good location, and it’s adorable, too. I think I spoke with Eunice on the phone to pay, and she checked in my best friend and me. She was so sweet and kind. I’ll stay here again if I come back to the area.

The heated pool was a nice touch, and the owners were so friendly and accommodating. Eunice, the owner, was a gem. They also put out good coffee and coffee cakes every morning. I stayed by myself and felt safe. It’s a nice little old-school motel on the quiet side of the Old Orchard Beach pier, with a clean room and comfortable bed. The beach is hardly a block away, and walking to the pier and downtown takes about 20 minutes, whether you go along the beach or the street. If you’re after luxury, this probably isn’t your place, but I’ll definitely come back.
