Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Old Saybrook Westbrook

The grounds were lovely, with a lake and geese, and the location worked well for what we wanted to do. Laundry facilities were adequate, and the service was good, though I nearly always had to ring the desk bell to get someone’s attention. My room was clean apart from the dirty shower curtain, which I had to change myself. I’d have preferred a tub, but the rooms only have showers. The front desk area was very dark and uninviting.

I don't usually leave reviews, but they really came through for me during the blizzard. Traveling alone as a mom with two dogs is a lot, and then my rental SUV got stuck on ice. They helped me get it moved, and I'm grateful for that.

The beds were really comfortable, which matters most to me, and the room was clean, though dated. The property is old but has the makings of a kitschy motel. The place felt a little below a typical Holiday Inn in quality. My main gripe was the AC: it shut off in the middle of the night, and when I woke up hot around 3:30am, I couldn't get it running again. I thought about contacting the desk, but no one had been there when I stopped by earlier, and I wasn't sure anyone would come fix it at 4am. It came back on around 7am. We had hoped to start our 7hr drive early, but after a bad night's sleep we left late, hit traffic, and the drive took 10 hr.

We got lucky finding a room here on a summer Friday by the beach. The room was fine, and the staff were wonderful. On checkout morning I had a flat tire, and the front desk folks helped with a compressor and directions to a tire shop. The breakfast was pathetic, but there's coffee available 24/7, which is enough for me. It's the nicest Econo Lodge I've stayed at. Thanks for being so hospitable.
