San Remo Hotel

The room was small, but it worked fine for me traveling solo or being out most of the time. The bed and pillows were comfy, and it was super clean with a cute vintage feel. It smelled fresh, not musty, and the staff were kind and helpful. Thanks for a great stay!

One bathroom on our floor was out of service, possibly because of the construction, and the bathrooms that were open could use repairs. The hallway lighting, which may be new, is also too bright. It would help to have signs explaining the renovation work. We’ve stayed here before and still love the hotel’s history and location. We believe these issues are temporary and hope the next visit is even better.

I’d come back, provided I can book a room with a private bathroom. I was traveling alone, and the clean room, comfortable bed, good Wi-Fi, and decent water pressure suited a budget stay. It’s not a luxury place, and it does test your tidiness and organizational skills. The staff were friendly. For coffee, there’s a great cafe across the street and another down the street. Trader Joe's is two blocks down for inexpensive lunch food, and there’s an excellent sandwich shop two blocks up the hill.

Pier 39 is within walking distance, which was the main plus for me. I booked three nights but left after one and found another hotel. The room was very musty, my allergies flared badly, and I decided to go elsewhere for the rest of my stay. I didn’t want to argue about a refund, so I absorbed the cost. The room was very dated, understandable for an old hotel, but when I switched on the light it made a loud electrical pop and sparks came out. On Friday morning, very loud renovation work started super early. I hadn’t known about the major work, and hammers and saws made it impossible to sleep in. Great location, but that’s about all it had going for it.
