Hotel North Beach

For food, there’s no buffet or room service, but there’s a vending machine, and the hotel is surrounded by loads of great restaurants. The staff are pleasant, and the building feels secure, even though you may run into a few odd people in the surrounding area, as you might in SF. The hotel is historic, with old photos and memorabilia in the lobby, and it’s well maintained and reasonably priced. The lower-floor rooms are smaller, but work well for one or two people who value an affordable rate and a convenient North Beach / Chinatown location over space or luxury extras. The top-floor rooms are larger, with big arched windows and lots of sunlight. Rooms have high ceilings, a microwave, closet, towels, and basic toiletries. Bathrooms are shared, but there are plenty on every floor, so finding an empty one isn’t an issue. They’re cleaned daily and don’t feel gross. I like that their layouts and decor vary, so you get a change of scenery. It’s not super fancy, but I really like this hotel.

Everyone was so helpful, and the service made it a great day. The atmosphere felt welcoming, the location was wonderful, and they even helped me find good places to go. I had a really great time and would recommend it for the customer care.

The building has an older look, but that’s just part of SF’s aesthetic, and there were no bugs in my room. I stayed from September 1st to September the 20th, on the 2nd floor in room 66. My room was very clean, and the bathroom was too. The cleaning lady was so sweet, please tip the woman. The hallways weren’t the cleanest, but they don’t represent the whole hostel. I loved the area, with great restaurants nearby, and the staff were pleasant.

I was woken up at 3 a.m. by mice in my backpack eating my beef jerky. There was also a dead mouse in my dresser. I’d smelled something odd throughout the trip and had assumed it was just the city. Given the price, I wasn’t expecting much, but this was too much. They didn’t offer any kind of refund at the time, just moved me to another room, where the pillow had hair all over it. I was given a full refund.
