I stayed for a week for a conference, and the hotel was affordable, with clean, safe rooms. They're small, but the price was hard to beat. It's right in the city, so getting to attractions was easy. Market Street trams are only two blocks away and can take you most places. Shared bathrooms weren't a problem, and I felt safe inside. Outside was a different story. The surrounding area had one of the highest homeless populations I saw, with easily 30 or more people out at any hour. From the lobby, I watched a homeless woman urinate in the street. If you stay long enough, you may see people using heroin, get an offer or two from sex workers, or have to step around human vomit, urine, and feces. Still, I was surprised by how little the homeless people bothered me. Nobody asked me for money. I really liked the hotel and the price, and would save money here to spend more on the food and tourist attractions nearby.

The receptionist was friendly, which earned the two stars. I stayed August 20-22, then moved to a Hilton near Union Square after the second day. My room cost $110 a night, while the Hilton was $130, and this place felt like a rip-off. I wouldn't recommend it to solo travelers. The room was awful. There were no curtains or shutters, so I couldn't hide the room from outside, and there was no private bathroom. The shared one was dirty in my experience. The neighborhood felt dangerous and was full of homeless people and addicts. That's the government's fault, but it was still disturbing as a tourist. There was shouting at night, too.

We were a young couple exploring the city, and the simple rooms suited what we needed. The facilities were kept clean, with one per corridor. The location is close to lots of attractions, although the area didn't always feel safe. There was a lot of nighttime noise and many homeless people, but nobody bothered us. I'd stay again.

For the low price, this was a great place. It looked just like the administration's pictures, a beautifully renovated building, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The woman arranged an airport shuttle for us at a good rate and stored our luggage on the last day so we could enjoy our trip right to the end. The shared bathrooms and showers weren't an issue. I never had to wait for a shower, and every time I needed the bathroom, I was alone. There were lots of homeless and unusual people outside, which made me less than fully comfortable, but a two-minute walk took us to a better area. Our street-facing room was VERY noisy. People yelling outside woke us around 6:30-7 every morning. It didn't bother us, though. Less time in bed meant a little more time to enjoy the day. Don't expect luxury from San Francisco's cheapest hotel. If you're the luxury-princess type, skip it. Otherwise, go enjoy it!

It's an active neighborhood that seems to stay awake all night, right in the heart of 6th street and its extreme poverty. Rooms are small, but reasonably priced at about $70 a night. The hotel keeps its shared bathrooms clean. During the pandemic, visitors weren't allowed. There are some cheap, good restaurants nearby, along with downtown theaters.
