It was clean and had no smell. I got a sale price, and it was so nice, even though it was farther from Laurel Ridge state park, where I went cross country skiing. Tina the manager was amazing. My mom had lost her jacket, and when we went back for it, Tina helped us recover it. I tried to stay at Comfort Inn, half an hour away, but the smell from the cleaning product, or maybe something covering up smoke, was too much. They claim there’s no smoke, but anyway.

The hotel was fine otherwise, but I woke up on the morning of May 28th with what I believe were bed bug bites on the side I’d slept on. They were extremely itchy and looked like the classic linear, clustered pattern, with pimple-like bites. I stayed May 26th to May 29th, 2026, in room 307. I told the front desk, and they’re conducting an inspection on Saturday, May 30th, and should let me know the results. I’m posting this for anyone staying there now or planning a visit in the near future. If that is what I experienced, bed bugs are a major issue. I now have to go through treatment procedures for all the clothes and gear I brought.

The location was great, with stores and restaurants nearby, and the stay was very good. A bit of a surprise: construction was going on inside the building on a Saturday in the late afternoon and early evening. Unfortunately, the pancake machine was out of service.

Our room was spacious, with plenty of space to set up the pack and play and let the kids run around. The hotel staff were generous and gave us a discount without our asking when they told us, just a couple of hours before check-in, that the pool would be out of service for our entire Thanksgiving 2025 stay of a few nights. That pool, the location, and included breakfast were the main reasons we chose it. The room, though, was dirty and clearly neglected. The drawers were disgusting, so we didn’t use them. There was film on parts of the bathtub, the microwave was gross, and the carpet had large stains and didn’t look vacuumed. I’ve never seen a power cord setup like this in a hotel. It wasn’t a single missed spot, but several areas and layers of missed cleaning. Complaining wouldn’t have changed anything, since it seemed normal there. (See photos.) We set the thermostat to 70, but when we got back one evening around 11pm, the room was 78. The front desk suggested setting both thermostats to the same temperature, since the one by the window didn’t control temperature and the wall thermostat did. We set both to 65, but by morning it was still 75. This happened on our last night. They offered to move us, but with an infant and another young child around midnight, switching rooms wasn’t worth it. Breakfast was the worst I’ve ever seen at any hotel. The pancake maker was broken the whole time, and the rest was absolutely a zero on a scale from 1 to 5. The milk, specifically, was expired; there was no fresh fruit, just the same ONE old banana every morning; and the breakfast meat was stale and overcooked. The same burned, stale omelettes were served each morning, clearly reheated. I don’t understand why management couldn’t run to the super Walmart next door for fresh fruit or heat-and-serve pancakes. As we were getting ready to check out, they finally put out fresh egg product, just minutes before we left and after we’d already “eaten” breakfast. Making reservations for another trip to the area brought back all the disappointment in the hotel. I wasn’t going to review it, but looking at the photos months later reminded me how bad it was. We’ll look at other hotels for our upcoming stay. Hopefully things have improved, because a lot went wrong. We usually book Holiday Inn express without hesitation, trusting the standards, but I’m second-guessing future stays.

The rooms were clean, the coffee was excellent, and breakfast was good. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. There was a misunderstanding about their pet policy, but they were very generous about letting us stay. I have nothing but high praise for them.
