Red Wolf Lodge at Olympic Valley

With younger kids, this place didn’t feel like a good fit for my family. The rooms were lovely, but I’d wait at least a few years before bringing them back. There was maintenance right outside our sliding door during nap time, with no warning, which was really inconvenient. I also wasn’t sure whether the Clubhouse events actually took place. If they were cancelled, it would’ve been nice to know. The coffee setup was odd for a Hyatt. We didn’t get enough for our stay, and when we asked for more, we were told there’s usually only one complimentary pouch per stay. Other places we’ve stayed had coffee available all day, regularly brewed, but here it was locked up in the lobby. I knew there’d be no continental breakfast, but still expected an all-hours coffee station. Most shops were closed during our visit, and that wasn’t shown on the map we were given. We had to find out by going there, then drive 20 minutes to the next closest place for food or drinks. We knew it was off season, but Google and the map weren’t reliable for checking hours.

We’ve stayed at Palisades several times and have already booked for next April. Since this property is outside the village, it’s much quieter than The Village. The beds and pillows are very comfortable, and the blackout curtains worked better than at other places we’ve stayed.

You’re just a short walk from the Palisades Village, with its shops, restaurants, and bars. From my comfortable room, it was 30 feet to the outdoor hot tub, with another one or two nearby. Past the tub was the gate to the slopes, and Red Dog Express Lift was 30 feet beyond that. The location is hard to beat.

Our two-bedroom unit was fully furnished and worked really well for the family during our five-night stay at Red Wolf Lodge. The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. For groceries or a wider range of restaurants, Tahoe City, Lake Tahoe, and Truckee are about a 20-minute drive away. I’d stay here again.
