Omaha Marriott

The breakfast was terrific, especially the fresh omelets made right in front of you. The wait staff were kind and attentive, and the rooms were clean and in good shape. Bar staff were fun and helpful, and there was enough parking. The elevators can be temperamental when lots of people need them.

The rooms need a serious remodel. They’re very small, with worn, outdated furniture and windows, though the beds are comfortable. The big pool area has paint peeling off the ceiling. Parking costs $19 even though this doesn’t seem like a high-demand area, and breakfast at $22 per person plus $12 in-room water bottles makes the charges feel nickel-and-dimey. The updated entrance, restaurant, and bar look nice, and the fitness center has plenty of machines and weights. Being near good restaurants and activities like Topgolf is convenient. Still, I’d stay elsewhere in Omaha.

At $189 after tax, plus a $50 deposit, I expected a lot more. Breakfast wasn’t included: you have to pay $22 for it or $12 for a continental option. Parking was another $20, and someone broke into our truck on our first night and stole a bunch of things. Staff basically said, “Oh well, parking is at your own risk.” There are no cameras around the property apart from nine recently installed in the common areas. The pool ceiling is peeling and dropping into the water. In our room, there was brown, nasty-looking stuff on the bathroom ceiling, and the paint looked like a landlord special. Our third-floor windows had no screens, the outlets were loose, and the alarm clock was stuck showing 3:52. The elevators were temperamental, repeatedly taking us to the wrong floor before finally stopping at the right one. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels, and even the Super 8 in Wichita, KS is nicer, for $80 a night.

The breakfast workers and room cleaners were the only bright spots for us. The front desk staff were unfriendly, and the old elevators and hallways badly need updating. As an Ambassador Elite member who usually enjoys Marriott hotels, I was disappointed that they didn’t offer a room upgrade. They said none were available, but when I showed them accessible rooms, they still just said sorry. This isn’t the comfort or experience I’d expect from a Marriott-branded hotel. If that’s what you’re after, I’d try another one.
