Hampton Inn Opelousas

The staff were genuinely nice and gave us great service the whole time, but the state of the room overwhelmed that. We were in room 221, where there were roaches, a terrible smell, and several cleanliness and maintenance problems. The trash can was rusty, the tub wasn't clean, the bathroom floor was damaged, the bed was uncomfortable, and the mirror/closet door handle was broken. Several bulbs were burned out too. I was so disgusted that I didn't even take pictures. The second-floor hallway felt hot and humid. A humidifier was running at one end, but it clearly wasn't fixing the dampness along the rest of the hall, and the ice machine was out of order. On the evening we arrived, a shooting was reported at a Walmart just a couple of minutes from the hotel, which made an already unpleasant stay more stressful. I'm a Hilton member, and this was one of my worst hotel stays. An emergency and the location left us no time to look carefully for a better option. The hotel needs a better room inspection process, with a detailed housekeeping checklist and supervisors checking rooms before guests arrive. I expected much better standards and upkeep as a Hilton member.

The check-in wasn't friendly, and when we reached our room, its door was open and unlocked. The room itself was decent, but sleep was the bigger problem. We fell asleep around 9:30 pm, then woke at 11 to loud rumbling on our floor. I called the desk and explained we had to be up at 6 to travel. The clerk said a game had just ended and the students would settle down. When I asked to move to another floor, she said there wasn't one available. By 11:30, it was still rumbling and noisy, and we couldn't sleep. Very disappointing and disturbing. I won't choose this hotel again.

The team inside this Hampton Inn made a strong impression. Everyone I met was friendly, outgoing, and happy to help. The woman who booked my room, who I think may have been the manager or front desk manager, was especially great. She seemed to take real pride in looking after guests and the property. My room was very clean, from the bathroom and surfaces to the corners, and the bed was comfortable. For what I paid, it was good value. The second-floor hallway felt unusually damp, as if there could be a leak or an HVAC issue. Maintenance should look into it before it becomes a bigger problem. The main downside was the approach and exterior: the driveway and entrance area looked rough and unkempt. I understand some of that property may not belong to the hotel, but it all looks connected, and first impressions count. The building itself looked dingy and could use a pressure wash. The staff perform like a high-end hotel team, while the outside has a “2007 roadside mystery motel” feel. They deserve better curb appeal. The owner doesn't need a complete remodel. The staff are already doing the hardest part by caring about guests. A bit of spending on landscaping, exterior cleaning, and maintenance touch-ups could turn a good stay into an easy five stars. The employees are doing their part. Meet them halfway.

This was my first stay at the Hampton Inn Opelousas, and the property seems well maintained. I got an upgrade as a Diamond member, to room #423, which was clean, spacious, smelled nice, and had a comfortable King bed. When I arrived at 3:45 pm, my room wasn't ready even though I'd checked in through the Hilton app. I usually request a digital key, but no notice came saying it was ready. Miss Felicia, the front deck manager, helped me out, and I really appreciate it. On 2/5/26, thanks as well to Elena and Alicia for their warm hospitality. I'll be back!
