Fairfield Inn by Marriott Jacksonville Orange Park

I’m a loyal Gold Elite Marriott Bonvoy member, staying 30+ nights a year, and rely on the brand for clean, safe, dependable stays. My Feb 5-6 stay at this Fairfield by Marriott in Orange Park, Jacksonville, FL was the worst hotel experience I’ve had. The property should not be affiliated with Marriott. When I arrived, I saw wholesale club supplies being unloaded from a Tesla parked by the guest entrance. The hotel felt severely outdated, like the 1970s, with worn furnishings and stained, dirty hallway carpet. The elevator rattled violently, and I avoided it after one ride. My room smelled strongly of bug spray, and I could see black mold on the ceiling. The bathroom floor was so sticky my shoes stuck, the washcloths felt like sandpaper, and the AC rattled all night so I couldn’t sleep. Breakfast didn’t even have on-brand coffee, and nothing felt like Marriott. The bug spray and mold exposure gave me a constant headache that continued for days. This place fails basic standards and misrepresents Marriott. As an elite member, I feel completely betrayed.

The staff were kind, at least. But the rooms were nasty, with living mold and unhealthy conditions. They need to renovate, and they can’t do it fast enough. The health department should shut the hotel down. Don’t decline room service for points because they’ll stiff you. Avoid the place until it’s fully renovated.

My room was definitely not one of the units already remodeled. The rooms are gross and outdated, and I was woken by bathroom renovation noise from directly above me that continued until checkout. I saw lots of toilets and bathroom supplies in the parking lot, which made me realize they were about to remodel. The staff were polite and courteous, with no issues there, but the cleaning crew is lacking. The elevator was disgusting and looked like it had never been swept. Its panels were loose and coming off, and it jerked and made noises that worried me about my safety. I travel across the Southeast for business and had the same experience as others. This was probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed in.

The room conditions set off my allergies, and even trying to manage them with my humidifier didn’t help. With no other rooms available, I had to leave and stay with a relative for the night. I’ve been a Marriott member since 2015, and this was by far my worst experience at one of their properties. The young woman who checked us in gave good customer service, but the rooms were unacceptable. In the first room, the bathtub was rusty and had no drain plug. After I reported it, I was moved to a second room, where there was visible mold on the ceiling and in the bathroom. The bathroom looked clean on the surface, but the mold made the room unsuitable. The hotel clearly needs updates and better maintenance. This fell far below the standard I expect from Marriott.
