Baymont by Wyndham Orangeburg North

I found a bedbug on the bed and had to kill it. The night manager acted like it was no big deal. There was also a wet spot about 12 inches wide on the bed that smelled like cleaning solution, so I insisted on changing rooms. In the bathroom, there were mildew spots on the shower curtain and around the tub. The microwave was broken, as were the window blinds. The owners seem not to have spent a nickel on repairs in years. The pool clearly hadn't been cleaned or serviced in years, though I wouldn't have used it anyway. Breakfast was the bare minimum they could put out and still call it continental. For $80, I don't expect the Waldorf-Astoria, but I do expect a basically working room that's clean enough to sleep in without getting bitten by vermin. Avoid this place like the plague.

The rooms are in terrible shape. Smoke alarms are missing, there are random smudges on the walls, and somehow there's mold inside the lampshade, on top of everything else I've read in the other reviews. At least we didn't find bedbugs during our stay, but the room still left us feeling gross.

It was 2:00am, and the room seemed okay at first, even clean. Then I saw the bathroom. There was missing drywall in the shower, black and brown spots everywhere, and a dirty washcloth on the curtain rod. The wall next to the toilet looked like it had fecal matter on it. I could deal with a rough-looking room, but not what I found when I went to bed. I thought it was a roach and grabbed tissue to kill it. Blood burst out when I picked it up. It was a BEDBUG. I packed everything, called the front desk, and thankfully got a refund right away. I even asked if he thought there was a room without bedbugs, but he said he couldn't say. Now we have to sleep in our car until we can check in somewhere else at 3:00PM. Don't book here until they take the time and money to deal with the bedbug problem.

The clerk at the front desk was kind and tried to help, but the room conditions made the stay unacceptable. We arrived at Baymont by Wyndham Orangeburg North and were first given a room without a toilet seat, so we moved. The second room was worse. The toilet often wouldn't flush, the sheets and comforter were stained and clearly unclean, and a strong unpleasant smell made it uncomfortable even to sit inside. The bathroom was filthy, with mold in the tub and dirty surfaces. It felt stressful and unsafe to shower or use the toilet. There were live spiders making webs, one on the lamp and another across the ceiling, plus a dead cricket on the floor. No chair, a broken phone, and an outlet by the light that looked unsafe added to the maintenance problems. My family and I couldn't relax or sleep, constantly worried something might crawl on us. Wyndham advertises its “Count on Us” pledge of clean, safe rooms and better sanitation. This property failed to meet those standards. With pests, dirty bedding, an unsafe bathroom, and broken amenities, I can't recommend it, especially for families. The hotel needs serious cleaning, maintenance, pest control, and safety work. I want a refund.
