SpringHill Suites Orangeburg

We normally enjoy staying here, and the front desk attendant who checked us in was very nice, as she always is. But the Sunday morning attendant was snappy and unaccommodating when we asked for a little late checkout, and she was snarky again as we checked out. We stay at many Marriotts with a lot more guests than this one and are allowed late checkout. We're loyal Marriott customers, so her attitude surprised us. If we decide to stay again, I hope she isn't there next time.

The room was clean, quiet, and had a very comfortable bed. Everyone I met on staff was friendly and helpful. I had a booking glitch, and Amanda (overnight) came up with a quick, outside-the-box fix that I really appreciated. Before we hung up, she asked for my number and when I expected to arrive. It felt like she wanted to make sure I was safe on the way and was looking out for me. A different Amanda (daytime) helped at checkout and was lovely too. I called before writing this and spoke with the manager Keneisha to confirm who had helped me. She seemed helpful and like she really cares about her employees. I think she liked hearing what I had to say. It was a very nice stay.

We asked to switch rooms, but the second one was only a little better. It still smelled of mildew, had trash on the floor, a cough drop wrapper in the toilet, and the same grimy residue on the furniture. We arrived late at night with young children and had already moved our luggage twice, otherwise we would have left. The first room was the least clean I've seen in nearly 100 hotels. Outside the door was a red spill across the carpet with a disposable glove beside it. Inside, there were chalky white streaks on the couch, a toilet that hadn't been cleaned, splatters on the bathroom walls that looked like dried blood, a dirty shower, and dusty surfaces everywhere. I've stayed in budget motels that were much cleaner than this Marriott. I took photos and contacted corporate. I don't recommend staying here.

The room was impeccable, and the A/C worked better than at any hotel I've stayed in. We had our hands full and everyone who helped us showed so much compassion. The GM, Assistant GM, I-Janae, and especially Allen were absolutely amazing. We've marked this hotel as a favorite since we often drive through on our way from Ohio to Florida.
