Grand Hotel Orlando

For the price, it’s decent, though I’d rather stay in a hotel than a motel. The beds were fine, the staff friendly, and the place felt cheap but clean. The bathroom was a bit cheap too, and the TV had a black line across a poor picture. It’s a two minute drive to Universal, but the immediate area isn’t great and the road is noisy. Some amenities felt unreliable, like the broken elevator. They’ve tried to freshen the place up, but it still needs work. Fine for a bachelor or someone trying to save a lot. Next time I’ll spend a bit more to stay somewhere nicer.

The room was clean, though it had a strange smell, and the lobby smelled oddly like smoke. I chose the hotel for its convenient location and company discount. The photos made it look like good value, but the actual stay didn’t match. At check-in they added fees that hadn’t been mentioned at booking: $20 for breakfast, Wi-Fi, and shuttle, even though I didn’t need or use those services. I wasn’t visiting parks and had no use for the shuttle. Breakfast was disappointing, with very few choices and unappealing food. The Wi-Fi barely worked, and the TV was almost unusable, only working sometimes and depending on that unreliable Wi-Fi. I don’t mind paying for things I use, but not for poor service or things I didn’t use. Parking was another $15 per day. Since I spent most of my time away, one flat fee for the whole stay would have made more sense. I also paid a $50 deposit that I was told would be returned, and I’m still waiting for it. The best part is the location, near lots of Orlando stores and attractions. If they keep charging extra for breakfast, the quality needs a major improvement. The Wi-Fi needs serious work too.

The place was beautiful and peaceful, and we liked the street views. Customer service was great. My wife and I especially want to thank the receptionist who looked after us. He was very professional and helpful, though unfortunately we didn’t get his name. He was a tall Black man and was there around 12:15 on February 24. Please give him credit. Thank you so much.

We were in room 352 from Feb 27-Mar 1. On the second night, a cockroach turned up in the bathroom. We reported it to the front desk, but they said we couldn’t switch rooms. The next morning, we found another one dead in the bed where my son had slept. At checkout, they said there was no record of our call. We threw away food we’d bought because of the roaches and didn’t feel comfortable eating the complimentary breakfast. The hotel offered only to refund the amenity fees, which hardly reflects how serious it was to find a cockroach in a child’s bed. Very disappointing.
