The Maverick Resort

I'm still here, but had to write this now. The staff are great, and the rooms are really nice. Since it's raining during bike week, they put out a bucket of clean rags and towels so we could wipe down and clean our bikes. This place goes above and beyond. I'll definitely come back.

Sharon at the front desk was amazing, and our room was cleaner than rooms at other hotels where we paid a lot more, though it wasn't perfectly spotless. The hotel is doing some maintenance, with only one elevator running, but it didn't affect us. We were there in January, when the hotel wasn't busy. For the price, this place was great. I arrived with low expectations because of the rate, even though the ocean view looked good, and I was pleasantly surprised. If you're not expecting a fancy resort, I think you'll be happy. I'm very satisfied with what we got for the cost.

The room was spacious, had a full kitchen, and every balcony faces the ocean. For the price, those are big pluses. If you can live with a few problems, this place could be a rough little gem. It's no diamond, but fixing some things might get it closer. The thin walls were my biggest issue. I could hear everything from the room next door and had to sleep with headphones on a couple of nights. The couple having a great time wasn't the hotel's fault, and kudos to them for lasting two hours, but I shouldn't have to hear it. There was construction going on too. Reviews had mentioned it years ago, so I figured it would be done by now. I was wrong. Maybe it's an unending construction zone. The floor looked clean, but my feet were dirty after an hour walking on it. I forgot slippers and ended up buying socks. The front desk sent someone to clean it the next day, since cleaners aren't available after a certain time. The bathroom sink barely drained, and the freezer door popped open every time I shut the fridge. For the ladies, a minor thing but worth knowing: there are no full-length mirrors. The only elevator working was slow as molasses. I made the best of it, and if you can manage these issues, the price and location may still work for you.

The seventh-floor view is what earned this resort five stars from me, and I was very happy with my vacation here. A few things to keep in mind: housekeeping doesn't come by every day, and if you order something, you have to go retrieve it. The AC doesn't get hot. That might not be much of a problem, but it's good to know if you're visiting in cold weather. It could have just been my room. There are, of course, a few things they could improve.
