Tropic Sun Towers

The room felt like a small apartment, and the view was amazing. The only real problem was the bathtub. Its ceramic coating was chipping, and the pieces were sharp, so you had to watch your toes to avoid getting cut. The place was otherwise amazing. Every morning the maintenance man worked hard spraying sand off the sun deck and keeping it clean. The small dog staying down the hall did bark every morning.

The beach view from our room was beautiful and easily the best part of the vacation. The stay at Tropic Sun Towers in Daytona Beach was average overall, with several things that need attention. Our room was disappointing: the bed was very hard, the bathtub looked like it needed resurfacing, and rust had broken the outside handle on the patio door. Check-in also left a poor first impression. We arrived around 8:30 PM, and the lobby door was locked, which I understand. There was an intercom button, but even after I pressed it several times, the employee inside didn't respond. I could see her at her computer looking my way. We waited outside for about 10 minutes before she finally opened the door. The property needs better upkeep and better customer service at check-in.

The beach view really is nice, and a few people at the hotel were respectful, which I appreciate. Still, the staff weren't very nice overall. When we first arrived to check in, the girl just sat there looking at us and wouldn't let us in. The tub was in bad shape, and the balcony door knob broke. The parking garage gate closes at 10:00 PM, which feels like you could get trapped in or out. The guy said to honk and he'd open it, but I think we'd just have been sitting there if we honked. I expected somewhere much nicer. There are way better places, and I'd rather stay at a Holiday inn. I don't recommend this place.

The balcony view is great, the pool area is clean, and the maintenance staff check things daily and hose down the ground. The kitchen is also well stocked for cooking in the room. With a lot of cosmetic work, this could be a top place, starting with properly sealing the entry doors and remodeling the bathroom. This timeshare needs a LOT of TLC and fixing compared with others I've stayed at. Walking barefoot left my feet black. The entry door has such a big gap that light and all the street car noise come through. The master bedroom is tiny, with a queen bed and oversized lampshades. The furniture looks like it's from about 1980, and the tiny TVs are hard mounted in the corners of both the bedroom and living area. The tub needs updating and has an old three-handle faucet. It looks like they painted over the old porcelain color, but now the paint is wearing off and it looks dirty. The kitchen baseboard is damaged and its overlay is partly peeled away. Smoking is allowed on the balcony, so you can't sit out there or even leave the door open to hear the waves without smelling like you're in a bar from about 20 years ago. I'd hate to be on the first floor with that big gap around the door. In one building, the hallway is the check-in area. I'm not sure what amenities are on the first floor of the second building. As I'm writing this at 5:18 am, I can only hear the metal flag hitting the pole and cars driving on Atlantic Blvd.
