Kapilana Resort

The docks and water were beautiful, and the hills are impressively steep. It was a serene spot, and we saw goose eggs and a gosling with its parents. The location itself was beautiful, though I would've liked a better equipped playground for my kiddos and some grass to stand on.

The easy check-in and clear communication made things simple, and we’d happily come back. We chose this place for its proximity to the state park while we were in town for a Bass fishing tournament. Our three-bed condo worked well for me, my husband, and our kids, ages 16 and 11. It was roomy and reasonably priced, with TVs in every bedroom and another in the living room. The kitchen had clean, well-stocked utensils and appliances, and we loved the lake views. There was ground-level access with no stairs, plus paved paths and space to walk outside. We also booked a boat slip, which was easy to use, had electricity, and wasn’t crowded. Trailer parking could be tricky if you’re not comfortable backing one up, especially during a tournament. We usually stay at Margaritaville, but both the kids and adults liked this place much more.

The boat slips didn’t have numbers, and at checkout they tried to charge us twice. The stay itself was a mess. We arrived for a fishing tournament and learned our room had been given to the owner, so we were put in the owner’s room instead. There was no power, and it took an hour and a half to get it fixed. The fridge had spoiled food, one bed had no sheets, and the master bed had dirty ones. We couldn’t find toilet paper, the hot water was off, and beer caps were scattered around. The WiFi password didn’t work either. There were dirty dishes in the dishwasher, clothes in the washer, socks under the bed and couch, and dog hair on the living room chair. The master bath tub drained so slowly that we stood in inches of filth.

We were a party of 19, from age 4 to 69, and everyone had a good time. Brian and Jen, the managers, were wonderful, and we found the resort clean. The kids especially liked the beach and pool. There’s plenty to do nearby to keep the whole group entertained, and the rates were more reasonable than we expected. A real family resort.
