Hampton Inn Ottumwa

I booked a room for work, then no longer needed it. The hotel refused to cancel the reservation and charged my credit card anyway. They also never sent a receipt. I contacted Hilton corporate, but they couldn’t help. This was a horrible experience with shady business practices. I’d avoid this hotel. They’re snakes, and this kind of conduct needs to be challenged.

The team made breakfast really well every day, and the staff were friendly and genuine throughout my stay from 10/27-10/31. They recommended some excellent restaurants, too. When you’re away from home working on the road, this is the place to stay in Ottumwa. I felt looked after, and if I pass through again, I’ll definitely stay at the Ottumwa Hampton Inn.

A better visit than the last several times. The room was decent and the TV worked, though the rug was still so dirty that my white socks turned black. The pool was good.

The first room was gross: dirty sheets, torn curtains, bugs, and pink mold in the shower. The next room was only a slight improvement. Its desk chair was ripped up, repairs looked poor, the bath floor hadn’t been cleaned well, and mildew under the air conditioner made it smell like a wet basement. Staff said, “oh, you can smell the pool.” They clearly don’t know the difference between chlorine and microbial growth. The tub drained slowly, so I stood in my own shower water. I’ll never come back. We’re Hilton Honors members, and this was deeply disappointing. I hope corporate requires the property to make much-needed improvements. UPDATE 11.13.24: At checkout, I was assured the 27,500 points for our stay would be refunded because of the awful room conditions. When I called to follow up, Tabitha said it could “take time” for the reversal to show up. I asked why it would take a week, and then she admitted she hadn’t done it yet. UNACCEPTABLE. She was flippant and didn’t apologize for putting off a simple task. That was the final insult after a horrible stay. This manager needs coaching on prioritizing her work and dealing with customers. Waiting five days to issue a refund for poor hotel conditions, including MOLD in the room, is ridiculous. I submitted a request for help to Hilton Corp with this information.
