Candlewood Suites : Overland Park - W 135th St by IHG

We were in town for a soccer tournament and liked the convenient location and guest laundry. At first the hotel seemed clean and nice, but last night we found cockroaches crawling around the kitchenette sink and counters. I told the front desk when we checked out this morning. We won't stay here again.

Roaches were everywhere in the room: on the bed and walls, in the bathroom, kitchen drawers, curtains, and alarm clock. I even found an egg sack in the dish cabinet. At 10:30 pm, after more than nine hours of travel, I told the front desk and refused to stay in an infested room. The hotel was booked that night, so the clerk offered a discount. I asked to move the reservation to another Candlewood Suites, but was told that wasn't possible because it was independently owned. I had to find another hotel myself. I contacted corporate, but they said they couldn't address it because this unit is “independently owned.” I was disappointed; I expected better quality control across a chain. Two weeks later, they charged my card $50, and I'm trying to dispute it. The customer service wasn't there, either.

I was in KS on business for seven nights. My room wasn't ready at check-in, and I had to wait more than two hours. The hotel did nothing about dogs left alone barking nonstop. There are better choices down the street, and my company won't use this hotel again.

The elevator was out, and they didn't tell us until we'd checked in and paid. There was no first-floor room, so we ended up on the third floor. Our room was dirty, with something left by the last guest on the desk and tables, fruit flies by the sink, and snot on the bathroom sink. The next morning we had to ask for spare towels and were told to find the maid cart and ask them. When we asked for an update on the elevator repair, the front desk woman was rude and condescending. This stay was so frustrating that I'd give zero stars if I could, and I'll never stay at a Candlewood Suites anywhere again.
