Best Western Sycamore Inn

The staff were extremely nice and accommodating, and the room was large with clean sheets. But at $350 a night even after a 20% discount, I expected a much nicer, cleaner room. Mine had an unsecured political, a shower head coming off the wall, bubbling paint, damaged headboard and furniture, cobwebs and a spider, dirty baseboards, missing grout, and rough trim work. There was badly patched paint, a gap around the door that let light through, and I could hear everything in the hall and upstairs. Some machinery switched on every 20 minutes. Since it was a weekend, rooms weren’t cleaned unless requested. The list goes on. I’ve paid $350 or more elsewhere and the rooms matched the price. This place feels more like an $80-a-night hotel.

The staff were kind, and the stay wasn’t terrible, but it was disappointing and didn’t feel worth what I paid. We chose the place for the “heated” pool, and it was freezing. They suggested swimming in the lake, which wasn’t what we had in mind. When we were checking out, AC maintenance came into our room even though my husband had said we’d be out in a minute. The bed and towels were mediocre, and breakfast was basic. I hope they can make a few improvements because this could be a nice place to stay.

I’m treated like a valued guest here, and the staff and service are hard to beat. My work schedule often means I need flexibility with booking, check-in, and check-out, and they make a real effort to accommodate me. This has become my go-to in Oxford. It isn’t as new or fancy as some other hotels in town, but the service keeps me coming back.

The shower water was painfully hot this time, and we couldn’t get a comfortable temperature. It was either cold or burning hot. Aside from that, my family and I have had no issues on our previous stays, and we come to this hotel every time we visit Oxford. The rooms look nice and are cleaned well, there’s a pool and a decent-sized breakfast, and the location is great. It’s friendly and nothing fancy or especially high quality, which is just what we expected for this kind of hotel. This visit’s water temperature was the only complaint.
