Homewood Suites by Hilton Oxnard/Camarillo

The room layout was handy with two toddlers and a newborn: lots of space, a separate living room, full kitchen, and dining table. The front desk staff were kind, and the maintenance worker who helped us was friendly. But we were uncomfortable throughout the stay because of the cleanliness problems. While the newborn was feeding, my sister spotted ants on her forehead. We then found about 10-20 ants near the bathroom mirror and a spider. After a 14-hour trip with two toddlers and a feeding newborn, changing rooms took over an hour. When we first called about the ants, it felt like staff needed proof, and we had to keep explaining that we had children before the concern was fully addressed. Other reviews had mentioned ants, including one from three months earlier, so this should have been dealt with. One review described ants in Room 328; we were in Room 128, so it didn’t seem limited to one room. In the second room, the sheets had visible hair and dirt, both phones didn’t work, and clean sheets requested the day after we moved weren’t provided until two days later. The shower curtain had also been removed. When we called, someone simply handed it to us without helping or apologizing. The room and staff had some good points, but I wouldn’t recommend this location, especially to families with young children.

We paid over $400 for a Saturday night in the hot tub suite, hoping for a sexy staycation, and it was a disappointment. The toilet was broken and the TV remote didn’t work. Maintenance was courteous and efficient, but had to leave for several parts, so the repair took more than an hour and interrupted us getting ready for the evening. We told the desk the next day and asked for points or a discount, but they didn’t seem concerned. The manager acted like we were the problem. We travel a lot and have stayed in tons of hotels around the US in recent months, and have never run into these issues.

Everyone was nice, and the rooms are clean and roomy, but Room 328 had an awful ant problem. Maintenance sprayed the night before, when there were only a few in the bathroom. By morning, hundreds were on the trash bag. We keep the room tidy, with food and drinks in the refrigerator, so it wasn’t a messy-room issue. It was disgusting and disappointing, and we had to move rooms. Also, the fitness center and pool are always locked during the hours they say they’re open.

I’d stayed here before without any trouble, but this visit was terrible. My room was on the first floor right beside the elevator, and when I asked to move, they said there were no other rooms. There was nonstop banging and noise all night, so I didn’t sleep well.
